Roberta Catherine Roman Thomas, (aka Cathy & Ma), age 68, born on September 25, 1952 quietly departed this world on September 2, 2021 to be with Jesus, while receiving loving care at her granddaughter’s home in Xenia, Ohio.
Roberta was a special lady who made people laugh with her funny sense of humor, mostly her looks, her eye rolls and then the raise of her finger, middle one to be exact. She will be remembered for saying words like “Up yours and Bite me”, and when the rest of us meet up with her in heaven I bet she will ask us “What took you so long?”. Although a native of Jacksonville, Florida, Roberta made Ohio her home. For a period of time she worked as a nurse aid in a nursing home and cared for folks in their own home. She also did a little babysitting for friends, worked stocking items at a local grocery market and was a cashier for a convenience store. She enjoyed league bowling, fishing, gardening, taking care of stray animals and raising cockatiels. She had a green thumb and often piddled with plants and flowers that other people would give her when they were almost dead. In the days when Roberta had to slow down and smell the roses, she enjoyed watching professional wrestling, playing computer games, and keeping in touch with her sisters. Her heart and joy was cherishing every moment she could with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Roberta Catherine Roman Thomas is survived by her children: James Losco, Melissa Woodard (James) Curbow, Jordan Holcomb, Shana Thomas (Isaac) Mackey; Grandchildren: Nicole and Christopher Mills, James Jr and Emily Curbow, Jacob Christmas, Jayden and Trevor Holcomb, Jacob and Sylvia Mackey; Great-Grandchildren Presley and Paisley Adams; Markell and Malcom Grundy; Sisters: Shirley Roman Herrod of Nahunta, Ga, Linda Roman Thomas, Nora Roman (Marvin) Losco, Barbara Roman (Eddie) Losco, of Jacksonville, Florida, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; Preceded in death by her parents Walter Sr and Annice Roman, sister Sarah Roman Sanderson and brother Walter Roman Jr.
Roberta did not wish for the family to hold a traditional service as she insisted on being cremated and having her ashes placed in the cemetery where her parents are buried. The children will be holding a private gathering with Roberta's sisters and relatives on September 25, 2021 in Jacksonville, Florida where they will carry out her last wish.
Gone Home
Does love still last?
Then do not weep for me
When from this mortal cast
I am at length set free.
For I am free,
and gone is all my pain.
If you have love for me
Don't wish me back again.
Oh loved ones dear,
Now you are left alone,
Have not a doubt or fear
I have just gone home.
