I know we haven't talked or seen you in a while, but we were so sad to learn about Bob. We have such good memories while being your neighbors. Allison is living in Charleson now and told us about Bob. We miss u and think of u and your family often.
Robert Lee Hiller (“Bob”) passed away peacefully at Greenwood Self Regional surrounded by his loving family, the morning of July 5th, 2017. He was 73 years young.
Robert is survived by his loving wife Alice Jean Hiller in Greenwood, South Carolina. Along with his three beautiful daughters: Melissa Porter (Raymond Young); Dawn Hiller Harvell; Kristin Ahlum and son in law Jeremy Ahlum. He leaves behind three grandchildren: Jacob Porter; Courtney Porter; and Justin Harvell.
Robert was born on March 24th 1944 to Geraldine and Carlton Hiller in Rochester, New York. He graduated in 1962 from Gates Chili High School, and went to pursue a degree in Engineering from Defiance College. Fate would have him meet Jean, his wife of 48 years, at the “Tally” while attending Ball State for Graduate courses. The two were a true example of love at first sight - and were married in September of 1968. Robert worked for Eastman Kodak for 35 years as a Quality Engineer, and soon after the couple retired to Greenwood, South Carolina in 2006.
While living in New York, Bob and Jean owned a cottage on Keuka Lake where they would spend their weekends with family. Bob was an avid fisherman, and loved to go trolling out on his boat “Ro No Mo” for Lake Trout. He was a true sportsman; he played quarter back for his high school team, he loved to hunt, play baseball, and go golfing. He was a talented engineer; whether it was building a house, designing a horse stable, or taking apart and reassembling a boat engine. He was a genuine outdoorsman; he loved his dogs and grand-dogs, taking care of horses, and going out for a ride on his Harley. He was a best friend, a genuine smile with a cheerful heart that never had anything bad to say. Robert was an intelligent man of many, many talents - there wasn’t anything that he couldn’t do. Above all, he was a family man and adoring husband. He was blessed with all girls, and loved them more than anything else. His vast knowledge and adventuresome outlook on life were gifts to his family, which will be greatly missed.
The Hiller family would love for you to join them Saturday, July 8th to celebrate his wonderful life. Service will be held at The Links at Stoney Point, Greenwood South Carolina, on the 16th Green at 6:30 PM. If you would like, please meet at the club house by 6:00 PM. If you do not have a golf cart, one will be provided. A golf cart procession to the 16th hole will begin at 6:15 PM. Immediately following the service, the family invites you to Bermudas at the club house for appetizers, and any memories you’d like to share with everyone.
If you would like to make a donation in Bob’s memory, the Hiller Family asks you send donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (https://donate.lls.org/lls/donate) to aid in the funding of blood cancer research and patient services.
