Robert Joseph Miller, 63, of Hyannis, Massachusetts passed away, unexpectedly, on April 16, 2019.  He was born March 27, 1956 to John and Miriam Miller in Hackensack, New Jersey. He and his five siblings were raised in Upper Saddle River, New Jersey.  He later married and raised three children in Midland Park, New Jersey where he also owned and operated a successful plumbing & heating company.
Robert is predeceased by his parents John and Miriam Miller, and survived by partner and friend Amy Anderson, former spouse Christine O'Neill, their children, daughter Erin Ortandl, her husband Matthew and son Edwin of Midland Park; son Michael Miller of Orlando, Florida; son Ian Miller, his fiance Britta Anderson and son Liam Miller of Midland Park; siblings John Miller, Miriam "Bea" Lhotak, Jill Welter; her husband Joseph, Pamela Jordan; her husband Michael Neppl, Jennifer Rafus; her husband David, and several nieces and nephews.
Robert was a skilled and talented boxer. He was a contender in the Golden Gloves Tournament where he placed silver and bronze while still in high school.  Unbeknownst to many, Robert was also a poet. He could often be found at a local diner writing words of wisdom and kindness on a yellow legal pad. He enjoyed golfing, running, biking, skiing and napping. He was also an avid reader and writer, a loyal parent and friend.  Robert was who he was, and he owned it; Like the rest of us, he didn't always get it right, but he lived a life of integrity, hope and possibility. The truth is, he was so much more than can be described on paper and words will never do his spirit justice.  He was, and always will be, a presence.
In keeping with Robert's wishes, no funeral service will be held, however if friends wish to honor his life, you may join the family on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 from 1 - 4 pm at the Ho Ho Kus Inn in Ho Ho Kus, NJ.

Robert Miller - I was blessed to have him as a brother - in - law if not for a short while. His words of encouragement still ring true for me today. He was always kind to me and stood by me when the chips were down. He brought 3 wonderful children into this world and I can still see myself chasing Erin around the second floor apartment in Upper Saddle River. Nothing but good memories and life in and around the Ridgewood NJ area, Bergen County NJ. A good, good man. I was stunned when the news came my way. Gods love to all of his wonderful children - Erin, Michael and Ian ( born in the house on Birch st, Midland Park NJ. ) Alan Van heest

Robert had an incredible spiritual connection with my daughter, Amy, whose heart is broken with his passing. Although they are now on different planes in this Universe, I know they are still connected. Their kitty, Fenway (FeFe), who Rob taught to “sit” for treats, bat a ball around, and several other tricks, will miss his Daddy. When I prepare chili for the Super Bowl, I will think of Rob, who always wanted the “real” stuff. My sincerest condolences go out to Robert’s family and friends.

I would have loved to have gotten together with Robert just one more time.  I will always shed a tear from this point forward every time he comes to mind.  I am deeply saddened by this sudden loss and of all the people I left behind when I relocated to Alpharetta Ga in 1996, Robert Miller was and is at the TOP of that list.  My heart cries....Alan

Although I have not seen Robert in many many years I have many fond memories of Robert from my youth growing up next door to the Miller family on Holy Drive.  One memory I have is when I was being bullied by the guy down the street, (Eric D) Robert offered to teach me how to Box to protect myself. What actually happened was I was invited down to the Miller's basement where Robert had his punching bags and all his boxing equipment. He then proceeded to use me as a punching bag! I quickly decided that boxing was not for me! I also remember Robert buying all my Beatles albums from me for $25 which he told me was a great deal!

I always looked up to Robert as he treated me better than my own brothers did while I was growing up and talk to me like a friend although there was a 5 year age gap.

I wish him a smooth journey on the other side of this life. Peace to all who loved him. JB
