Charles Robert Coffey, 83, of Austin, Texas, died peacefully on August 5, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Robert (as he was known) was born in Austin, Texas on November 25, 1938, to Robert Frank Coffey and Veta Catherine Hopkins. He grew up in Austin, where he attended Austin High and the University of Texas, graduating with a degree in Petroleum Engineering.

Robert and his beloved wife Sarah were married in 1960, the same year he started his career with Shell Oil.After the births of their sons, Jeff and Gregg, Robert made the bold decision to accept an overseas position with Occidental Petroleum, first in Libya and later Nigeria, thus beginning a 40-year career that allowed him to work and travel throughout the world.

In 1973, Robert and family returned to Houston, Texas. They became active members of Spring Woods United Methodist Church, where they met many of their lifelong friends. In 1985, they moved to Bakersfield, California to take another opportunity with Occidental. It was only intended to be a temporary relocation, but they ended up staying for 25 years. While there, Robert enjoyed golfing, spending time with his young grandchildren Stephanie and Ben, and volunteering as a court-appointed mentor and advocate for foster children. He and Sarah also discovered Bend, Oregon, where they spent many fun summers and made more friends.

Upon his retirement in 2010, Robert and Sarah moved back to Austin, where he was able to devote himself fully to his passions - golf, the stock market, his dog Bonnie, and the Texas Longhorns.

Robert loved life, his family, and his neighbors and friends. He was fun-loving and generous, with a great laugh and an infectious sense of humor.

Robert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sarah, son Jeff and daughter-in-law Elizabeth, son Gregg, and grandchildren Stephanie and Benjamin.
