ForeverMissed

This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Roger Barrows, 63 years old, born on April 14, 1957, and passed away on April 9, 2021. He made an impact on everyone he ever met and will be remembered forever as a loving husband to Andi, father to Heather, Sunshine, and Milcah, and grandfather to Logan and Mia.

Roger’s parents Warren and Dorothy have passed as well as Roger’s dear brother Don (Sonny). He is also survived by his sister Marie and brother Warren.

Roger and Andi met in Springfield VT and lived there until shortly after they both retired. Upon retirement, they both realized they would like to be near the ocean, so they made the move to Salisbury MA. They had many great beach days this past summer and loved exploring the east coast

Roger loved animals, he and Andi had many dogs that they spoiled and loved beyond words. For those who wish to make a memorial donation in his honor, we request they be made to the Springfield Humane Society. https://www.spfldhumane.org/donate

An in-person memorial will be planned after the ongoing pandemic

I just learned of Roger's passing. I worked with him in the mid 90's. He was always on the run, never staying still for long but he was a good teacher and co-worker. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

My condolences to the family. I had the pleasure of meeting Roger when I purchased the beautiful house from him in Springfield. Roger was willing to talk to me after I moved in with anything I needed to know. I am also truly thankful for him and his wife waiting longer than originally expected for me to close on the home.

My condolences to all of Roger's family, friends, and past co-workers. I had the pleasure of meeting Roger in the 90's and then more so as time passed and I made trips to Windsor. Roger was always the go-to guy at the facility, and made me feel welcome. In my near 36 years in the DOC, I found Roger to be a true professional and even better person. Rest in Peace my friend.

My heartfelt condolences to the wife and family of Roger Barrows. I worked at SESCF as a CSS for 4 years. Although Roger was the SOS during my tenure there, I didn’t miss an opportunity to see his infectious smile and listen to his great stories. I especially liked hearing of his Shenanigans at Concord Motor Speedway and his RV trips there. I left Vermont 13 years ago to be closer to my family. I now reside 8 miles from the speedway in North Carolina and think fondly of him each time I ride past. He was kind, genuine, empathetic and paid no attention to the “divide” between casework and security staff by treating us all with respect. RIP Roger. You are missed.

I sadly saw this in today's Eagle and my condolences for your loss. I worked at Windsor with/ under Roger in the early 90's in corrections. He was a good, fair man who we knew "had our back" and we all respected. Again, sorry for your loss but know Heaven just got a little bit better with his addition!

I worked in Corrections with Roger from the Marble Valley Facility and we both retired in 2015 after 32 years. He was such a nice guy that always tried to get the best from his staff and I'm sure he was very supportive of them as well. I am truly sad that he was taken so soon and am very sorry for your loss. Vermont DOC was very fortunate to have someone like him for so many years.

My brother Roger. My heart is with you always. Roger was only a few years younger than me. As we were growing up together, we shared a bed room with bunk beds and we always shared so many great times together. As we got older and moved to different states we stayed in touch by phone on holidays, birthdays and any time we just wanted to talk to see how each of us was doing. I enjoyed joining him and Sonny at Tally for the NASCAR races, it was always a lot of fun. Roger loved his family and friends. He liked to tell me about his dogs and his walks with them throughout the years. I know he loved his move to Mass. He said he liked watching other people mow the yard knowing he didn't have to do that any more. Roger we will miss you always! I know that our mom and dad, along with Sonny, have welcomed you with open arms in heaven. RIP my brother!

Rest In Peace Rog! Thank you for being a great uncle and helping me out all those times with oil changes and teaching me how to hit a bank shot while shooting hoops. And of course for taking me to see my first Celtics game where you had to pull me aside in the Hartford Civic Center just before I would’ve been mowed over by Reggie Lewis. I’ll forever miss the lazy Sunday afternoons watching NBA games in the basement of the old house. I know there’s more to say, but it’s getting harder to type as this goes on, so I’ll just leave with a “YO!”

Love,
Aaron

Our deepest sympathy to the entire family. We were so shocked and saddened to hear of Roger's passing. We have wonderful memories of the many years we would camp at Loudon and attend the races together. We also had a great time going to Talladega together. Roger was a great guy and good friend. Rest In Peace buddy!

My condolences to the family. It was so heart breaking hearing of Rogers passing. I worked along side of Roger for approximately 25 years and he was easily one of the best coworkers I have ever worked with. He was a great mentor and friend. He will be missed! Thoughts and prayers!

My Dad passed away just a few days ago and today is his birthday. I’m absolutely heart broken and this is really hard to do right now, but I need to. He was the most generous person I have ever known, he would go out of his way to make things easier for anyone. He was always offering to help me with household projects and car stuff, everything he could do, he would offer to do for me or for anyone. I was happy that as I got older I was also able to help him with a few things, not a lot, but here and there I could demonstrate my gratitude for everything he has done for me.

His passing was sudden and unexpected, but I feel like there wasn’t much left unsaid about how much we meant to each other. I know he knew how much I absolutely adored him and I knew the same. It is a small comfort anyway.

Only about a week before my Dad passed I had to put down one of my animals, my little ginger cat named Billy, I was devastated and I thought I would share the text message my Dad sent me at that time.

“It definitely takes some time for things like that to get out of your mind. Just try to remember the funny times. Max and Minka will keep you motivated. Hope the Celts get it together tonight. Have a beer and try to relax.”

I guess that’s what I’ll do now too. Remember the funny times. Take comfort in my animals and family and friends. Have a beer and hope the Celtics get their shit together.

He showed me in every single way how to be a better person. I’ll continue trying to keep up with him.

His Life

Retirement

April 14, 2021
After 32 years in the Vermont Dept of Corrections Roger decided to retire, probably a big surprise to everyone who knew him well, his work ethic and commitment were unmatched. After some adjustment, he started to enjoy a little slower pace of life with more time to watch sports, drink beer, and hang out with family and friends.

After Andi retired a year or so later, they decided to move to the coast and settled in Salisbury MA.

Fatherhood

April 14, 2021
Roger became a father to Heather before returning to Vermont. Roger also became a father to Andi’s children, Sunshine and Milcah.

Needless to say, he was the best Dad ever.

Back in Vermont

April 14, 2021
Roger visited his extended family in Springfield often and on one of those visits he met Andi, he soon moved to Springfield and started his longtime career with corrections. Roger and Andi got married in 1987 and bought their home on Elm Hill in 1996

Hey, what's going on?

April 27, 2021
Hey, what's going on? will always be my favorite image of you. It was always your greeting, so friendly, encouraging a response. You got stuck with me bc Andi is my very best friend. But you became family. You and Andi are my family And I want to thank you for being so kind when I would show up on your doorstep either sobbing or filled with exciting news and in need of your wife. Thank you for all the times you've had to go out and jumpstart my car. Thank you for waking with me. You walked so fast! I was so glad you could carry the whole conversation bc I could barely speak. I loved how you loved Andi. You could tell you adored her. Oh and I loved how much you loved Christmas shopping. It was fun going with you guys I am honored that you and Andi drove me to my wedding. Sharing that moment. One of the most exciting moments in my life. You have made a huge impact in my life. I love you and I will miss you so much, love Becky
