ForeverMissed

Dear Friends
This memorial website was created in memory of our friend and colleague, Roger Adlard, who passed away very suddenly and completely unexpectedly on the 5th October 2021.
Plastic surgery has not only lost a great hand surgeon and fantastic colleague, but above all we have lost a much loved friend. Our team here at St George's is utterly devastated. He was universally loved and always managed to make everyone smile, if not laugh out loud. He is sorely missed.
Our thoughts are with his wife Julie and his family at this time.
We know that many of you knew Roger and will undoubtedly have happy memories of him. Please share your thoughts /stories /messages here. We are sure this will help us all come to terms with this tragic loss.

I am saddened by this loss of a kind, polite and thoughtful surgeon. I remember him as one of the registrars in Chelmsford and was a delight to work with. My most recent memory of him is when I saw him at the BAPRAS meeting in Bournemouth about two years and he was still his pleasant self and we briefly chatted about consultant life . He is definitely gone too soon. Great destiny cut short by the wicked pangs of death . May God console his wife and family. May his soul rest in peace. Adieu Roger.

I can not believe that Roger is not with us. Last month we operated together on a case of Caesarean scar endometriosis and Roger told me how he enjoyed working with colleagues from other specialties. He told me that we should do more of these cases together and become a referral centre for such cases. Roger always had such a very positive approach towards life and work. Whenever I operated with him, I learned something new- surgical skills, where to go on holiday..etc. He told me how he carried his Alexa with him and enjoyed his music while operating and that I should do the same.
An excellent colleague, a very skilled surgeon and a fantastic human being- Roger you will be missed!

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Mr Adlard. I will always remember his sense of humour, patience and approachable nature. We would talk about hand surgery sometimes, but more often pub trivia, bad music or a shared love for Das Boot. I know the loss to the department and to his family will be hard to bear. I hope to be able to emulate some of his many qualities; he will be truly missed.

I have the best memories of Roger, always the funniest and the kindest, always happy to help. A very special person whom we were lucky enough to call a colleague and friend.

What a great and sudden loss! He was one of the nicest men I have ever met. Always ready with an amusing anecdote or observation, I echo a lot of people who have commented on how much he made them laugh. I am shocked at his passing. He was far too young. A great colleague has been taken from us too soon.

A loss of the friendliest and funniest of plastic surgeons, and one of the greatest colleagues that I trained with. RIP Roger.

I am shocked, and I feel such a great sadness!
He was the loveliest person and it was a real pleasure to work with him. I will always remember his stories, the “indalo” symbol on his car, and I will never forget his constant smile.

Just cannot believe its 2 years since he's gone...if I was at Georges I would visit his bench. So hope someone has been today. Sending you a heavenly hug Roger....we miss your cheesy jokes, your funky socks, your penchant for monster munches ( ugh!) , your fabulous font of cinematic trivia knowledge but mostly your love of life and a good laugh! We miss you Roger...team Plastic has lost a bit of its shimmer! Xx

Glancing over at Julie and Roger at the next table at the James Bond BFIRST ball and seeing them hold hands. ♥️

I really loved working with Roger, but perhaps not the choice of music in theatres! He always had a great story and a joke to tell. He was so thoughtful and caring with both staff and patients. He will be sorely missed by all his work colleagues. My thoughts are with his family and closest friends, I can't imagine the loss they are feeling of such a kind soul.
