ForeverMissed

This memorial website was created to honor the most influential man in my life, my hero, my rock, my father.

He taught me how to break things, how to fix things and how to love things.

Dear, sweet Roger, you and I always had the most special relationship. We always loved each other and treated each other with kindness and respect Oh dear cousin, how I wished that I could have told you one more time what you meant to me. I hope you knew. I’ve thought of you often over the last 22 years. This date is a memorable one for my family because it is the date that my eldest son got sober. So each year as your anniversary comes along I remember with happiness, my son and his sobriety and with sadness you’re passing.
I love you Roger.

We meditated and said a prayer at church this morning for Memorial Day. I stood and shared that today was the anniversary of my brother Roger's passing. I was surprised that my tears continue to flow after 18 years. This is the prayer we shared:
"PRAYER OF GRATITUDE AND AMENDS TO THOSE THAT HAVE SERVED THEIR COUNTRY IN THE ARMED FORCES.
Often our returning veterans have not been very well treated or appreciated. Our collective subconsciousness is vast, and each time we forgive and ask for forgiveness we clear more and more. Today, we remember those who serve or who we have lost as a result of service to our Country.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR GIFT.
WE REMEMBER YOUR SACRIFICE.
WE SURROUND YOU WITH PRAYERS OF GRATITUDE AND LOVE.
IF I OR ANY OTHER PERSON HAS EVERY DONE ANYTHING TO HURT YOU,
     OR OFFEND YOU,
     OR DISRESPECT YOU,
     OR MAKE YOU FEEL GUILTY,
     OR IGNORE YOU,
     OR RIDICULE YOU,
     I APOLOGIZE.
IF I OR ANY OTHER PERSON HAS FAILED TO SEE YOUR GIFT,
     OR APPRECIATE YOUR SACRIFICE,
     OR UNDERSTAND YOUR SUFFERING,
     OR VALUE YOUR LIFE EXPERIENCE,
     I AM SO SORRY.
PLEASE FORGIVE ME AND PLEASE FORGIVE US."

Dear Grandpa,
I am so sad that I never saw you in person but probably saw 100 pictures. I wish I saw you, at least one year.

Forever, you live in our hearts! You hadn't really left us. You are just in the shadow sharing our moments of fun 'cause.....you were once the "life of our parties".

Dear Dad -
I thought of you today, but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday and days before that too. I think of you in silence, I often speak your name. All I have are memories and a picture in a frame. Your memory is a keepsake, from which I'll never part. God has you in His arms, I have you in my heart.

Roger! Could I ever forget you! You emailed me that night before your last breath of life....so sad...so alone to say good-bye. You're such a wonderful, lovable guy you never knew yourself. Nobody has forsaken you...everyone I know loves you and you are surely missed! You friendship, your helpfulness, your beautiful heart has won the affection of so many. Rest in Peace.

You never know who you will meet......

May 23, 2023
Dad,

This past weekend, I was fortunate enough to participate in Electrify Expo.  It's my 2nd time attending and showing off my car.  During the 3-day event, I met Rick from Fayetteville, NC.  He's a retired military man and a super nice guy.  We got to talking and he shared that he runs this organization to bring awareness and support.  If you met him, I know you would call him your in-County brother!

He gave me this cool patch from his organization and I'm planning to help out as best as I can.  They are actually having a car show this coming Memorial Day weekend.  It will be 22 years since you left and the car show is called Man22 Suicide Aareness Car Show and today is the 22nd.  Too many things are aligning!  In your honor, I bought a car show entrance and asked that it be donated to a local person that wants to attend but can't afford a ticket.

I still try to pay it forward, like you taught me.

It's been 20 years.....

May 26, 2021
I can't believe it's been 20 years!  So many things have happened.  We've had an African-American president for 2 terms, currently have a Female African-American VP, we've converted your solar panels from warming up water to harvesting electricity, I've been driving an all electric vehicle for nearly 3 years, you have 3 grandchildren, the house is still in tact, we still do things to help the community........and we still miss you.

Aside from negativity in the world, there are still good people trying to do good things and raise awareness for things.  I had this banner made and will reveal it tonight at a car meet that is raising fund for National Alliance for Mental Illness.

Memorial Day Weekend

May 25, 2020
Memorial Day is when we honor those brave men & women that paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.  I'm sure part of you died in the war, so we honor you too.

Usually we spend time with family and friends at a poolside bbq or picnic at the beach or park.  With COVID-19 keeping the family hunkered down, we didn't go anywhere this weekend except for a little hike this morning.  I've still be going to work so this 3 day weekend was especially nice to lounge around the house and think of you.  Thanks to technology, we shared some stories about you through email with mom, Aunt June, Brandon, his family and mine.  Aunt June shared some pictures of you that I've added to this page.

On the eve of your 19th death anniversary, many of us still feel the void.  We comfort ourselves knowing you are no longer suffering from the demons in your head and the Lumbar Spondylosis that played havoc on your torso.
