Roger Harvey Rubin passed away peacefully at his home in Odenton, Maryland on August 29th, 2021 with his wife and daughter by his side.

Roger was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 9th, 1943 to Pearl and Victor Rubin. Roger was blessed to also have a loving stepfather, Joe, after his father Victor passed away when Roger was just 12 years old. After graduating from Brooklyn College, he went on to earn both his Master’s degree and PhD in family sociology with a focus on child development and couples’ relationships from Pennsylvania State University. He taught family science at the University of Tennessee before accepting a position the University of Maryland as an associate professor of family science, and eventually retired as professor emeritus.

To know Roger was to love him. Roger will be remembered by his positive attitude he carried throughout his entire life. He was patient, kind, and always saw the good in everything and everyone. There was never a dull moment spending time with Roger as he loved to share stories from his life - a life truly lived to the fullest. Roger was happiest when fishing, working in his garden, and just being around those he loved. Some of his favorite things included classic cars, the Washington Nationals, and his favorite food: dessert.

Roger’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by his wife, Karen Rubin, and the light of his life: his daughter, Joanna Rubin. He will be deeply missed by numerous friends, family, and all who knew him.

Oh, Roger, I was checking your address for forwarding to you a Christmas card, and there online was 'Roger Rubin, Obituary. I am so saddened with your passing, and here is what I wrote on the card to you and Karen:
"I still remember walking with you and Jeff (Rubin) in China and your asking me about becoming a member of Groves Conference. How fortunate I was to meet you and know how significant ;your work has been with families. I was so glad to be with you in Groves Conference on Marriage and Family because of your contributions to Groves and to know you as a friend!! I know that you'll rest in peace.

We met you and Karen only a few years ago, but felt like we knew you our whole lives. We remember our special times together. They were always filled with lots of laughter.
As you said in our last phone conversation, the New Year's eve we spent in New Jersey (Atlantic City) was "the best New Year's weekend in my life"! We felt the same.
We will pray for you always, and are thankful for how you touched our lives.
Rest in Peace, Dear Friend
