One of my earliest memories as Ron's little brother is driving out to Almaden in the green Lester Farms flatbed truck. I thought we were pretty cool eating beef jerky, salami sliced with a pocket knife, eating dried apricots and singing songs.
It was then that Ron taught me the song:
"Mares eat oats, does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy,
A kid will eat ivy too, wouldn't you?"
I had no idea what the words really were until much later in life, and I still have no idea what it means--but it always stuck with me.
Ron was a great brother and I am grateful that we had a chance to work together later in life. Ron helped to take the summer camp business to a more professional level. In fact, it was at his insistence that we finally moved out of mom and dad's house into a real office.
Ron started our uniform and supply business, Goal Line, and helped to develop an extensive sales force throughout the Western United States.
But Ron's biggest love was the family and he spent many years researching the long California history of the Lester family. If you were looking for a way to spend an evening, all you had to do was ask Ron about the family.
