Obituary

February 23, 2021
Ron Dean passed away peacefully at his home with his caretakers, son Steven and former wife of many years, Roberta. Ron fought a long and courageous battle for decades with diabetes and related complications. But true to his word and goal, he outlived his parents ages, Lois, and Oliver Dean.

Ron made the most of each day toward the end when facing ever changing adversity. He was unbelievably brave and never feared passing. He greatly enjoyed being at home with his dog on lap while watching the SF Giants play baseball.

Ron is survived by his dear friend and high school sweetheart Roberta Coughlan, his sons David, Steven, and Rodger. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, his three siblings Bob, Dale, Richard and many adoring nieces and nephews.

Ron was a graduate of Pleasent Hill High School. He earned a varsity letters in football. After high school, Ron moved out of the Bay Area with his pregnant wife to Scotts Valley. Much of his free time was spent taking his family camping and exploring high mountain lakes. In the mid 60’s he moved to Yreka to work for the Yreka City Water Department. During late 70’s Ron and Roberta started a steakhouse restaurant called Wyreka 1852. It was very successful for many years. During the 80’s and up until a medically forced retirement, Ron was a realtor. His knowledge of what Siskiyou County has to offer helped him received many sales awards throughout his career.

Ron was always close to his community as an Elks Lodge supporter, Junior League Football volunteer, and volunteer fire fighter for many years. He loved the many outdoor opportunities Siskiyou County provided. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. His passion was going into high mountain lakes, boating on Shasta and Siskiyou lakes. He especially enjoyed drift boat guiding friends and family down the Klamath River.

Ron was blessed with caregivers who worked tirelessly to support his comfort and needs as age progressed. His champion, and our blessing, Sharron who tirelessly coordinated, advised, and oversaw his final years. At times his task master, advocate, and friend. She helped ensured he got the best care possible. Ron and all of us thank you! Another beloved companion of Ron's was Beverly who spent many of Ron's final years together sharing life's joys, dog sharing and family events. She was very special and dear to Ron.

A wonderful family man, full of patients, problem solving, educator and the ultimate gentle soul. Often ending phone calls or trip visits with “Love You”. The world lost a kind spirited man that would give the shirt off his back to a stranger in need. Often, we only heard about his good deeds years later from others. He was the guy that told you his best fishing hole or give up his weekend plans to help someone else in need. He will be missed.
