First hunting trip with dad

May 20, 2021
Dad was a great story teller an no one could tell one like he because he always gave just enough enthusiasm to his stories to keep you on the hook till the end.
The first time dad passed on his love for deer hunting to me I couldn't have been no more then 5 or 6 (he would know the exact age) but he told me we were going to get up in the morning to go hunting I needed to get in bed an sleep because it was going to be a long day. Well I got in bed but I was already dressed an ready to go an probably every hour on the hour id wake him up to see if it was time to go. After so many times of this going on i guess dad decided my excitement was to much to continue to lay there so he finally said yes we can get up to go. Dad made me a cup of "Peter rabbit coffee in my Peter rabbit cup" (Nestle Quick Rabbit cup) half milk half coffee an a ton of sugar. We climbed into his pickup an were on our way, once we arrived to camp i remember sitting on the floor of his ladderstand between his feet an ready to see a deer but first I had to remind dad "we aint eat yet" he assured me we would eat when we got down for me to just be still an wait. Not sure how long later but we got some snakes an moved to a boxstand perched in the top of a tree, once in the stand dad make a pallet on the floor for me to take a nap. I remember dad waking me up to see 2 doe walking under us but he wouldn't shoot them because it wasnt "doe days" I didnt understand all that but my excitement of seeing an animal an spending time being like was more fun an made the trip more memorable to me then anything. From that day forward ive had the hunting bug an we had many more trips an conversations on deer hunting over the years an most always included "Hey dad we aint eat yet" at some point
