ForeverMissed

Beloved Family & Friends,

This memorial dedication site was created in memory of our loved one, Ronald Otey, 66 years old, born on August 28, 1954, and passed away on February 16, 2021. We will remember and cherish him forever.

Ronald contracted COVID-19 around January 13, 2021 which led to a hard fought, lengthy battle for his life, beginning in Princeton Community Hospital, and ultimately ending at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, in Roanoke VA.  The untimely and unexpected death of Ronald is an absolute shock and devastation to his family, friends, and all who knew him.

He was a loving and dedicated Husband, Father, Grandfather, Son, and Brother.  His love for God and his family was seen by all.  Although there are not enough words to describe how much he will be greatly missed, we can all take comfort in knowing that he is with our one true Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The immediate family intends on having an intimate gathering, at a future date, in celebration of Ronald's remarkable life.

This dedication site may be used to help us celebrate and honor the life of Ronald Otey.  We welcome fun times that were shared together as well as any special memories.  There is no formality required when speaking from the heart.  Feel free to click on stories at the top and share your special memory or thoughts with an attached picture.

Thank each and every one of you for your generous outpouring of support during this very difficult time.

With Love,

The Otey Family

Today makes 2 years that you've been gone Dad. God knows I miss you. I keep you in my fondest memories and know I'll see you again in Heaven one day. Landon misses you too, and we talk about you on a regular basis. I wish you could see what a magnificent young woman she is becoming. She likes to fish, too! I took her to Rogersville last year to our spot and we caught a bunch and had a great time together. The only thing that was missing was you. Love you Dad.

Yesterday would have been my dad's 68th birthday. It's hard to believe he's been gone a year and a half already. I spent a while yesterday looking through old photographs and remembering so many good times we had together. I miss my dad, I miss my friend.

Love You Dad,

Josh

I’m friends with Josh but had the pleasure of meeting Ron in the neighborhood. I believe he was the second person on our street to great and welcome us. We have 4 dogs and he always was asking about them when we had them outside. He liked being outdoors and so do we. He thought it was funny when I talked to them like a human. The last time I saw him out he asked me if they really understood me when I said “that’s far enough” or something to that effect. I said yes they do believe it or not. He just chuckled. My condolences to the whole family. My heart breaks for you all. He was a good neighbor.

Ronald was one of the nicest, kindest, most gracious people that I have ever known. The last two times I have moved Ronald was there helping me move my belongings.
The last time he came to help me right before going to work on his job.
I have been fishing with him numerous times. I really enjoyed fishing with Ronald.
I have attended church services with him quite a few times over the years. I was involved with doing cchurch Dramas with he and Vanassa and our kids for a while too. We all really enjoyed doing the Dramas in various denominational churches. It was fun and spiritually uplifting for me I know.
This has been a very sad time for me as Ronald has fought hard for his life and went through all this. I hoped and prayed everyday asking God to bring him out of the Covid nightmare and back to his family, but it was not to be. Its really hard for me to comprehend that Ronald is gone.
I will remember and miss Ronald till the day I die.
My heart goes out to Carolyn and all my family there.
God Bless everyone there,
Pray for me here in Ohio regular too, thanks

Ronald was my cousin, we went to high school together, got married lived beside each other and shared memories. He was a amazing person that spoke out on what he believed and was loved by many. He always had a smile when I'd see him out and always encouraged me to take care. His wife, son and daughter and grandkids were blessed to have him as well as his brothers and family. I will miss you and I'm sure will look for you when I'm out because this doesn't seem real.. I love you and I'll miss you..

Quiet Rides to Work

March 6, 2021
I usually talked to my Dad on the phone each morning on the way to work.  He has always been an early riser, so it worked out well for us to catch up early, before the day got to be too crazy.  There was nothing in particular that we'd talk about, just whatever was going on.  We'd go from boat parts and fishing destinations, to what one of our crazy government officials had recently said or did, or really just whatever was on one of our minds.  When we started running out of things to talk about, we would always circle back to the weather, lol.

Since Dad passed there have been several occasions when I get in my car to head out, that I momentarily reach for my phone to call him, and then have to stop myself.  It's hard not having him to talk to; to hear my latest dumb joke, or exchange ridiculous anecdotal stories about something and have a good laugh together.  I miss his voice, I miss him.

Motorcycle buddies

February 20, 2021
Ron and I went on several motorcycle trips together. One time on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Ron entered a curve a little hot and ran into the ditch. Fortunately  for him it was one that been lined with stones so he rode it for about 10 yards and rolled right out. We all had a big laugh and told Ron how luckey he was.
One of our trips took us around the Great Lakes and it was an awesome trip and we had a great time. Terrific memories.

Basketball
