It's been 5 years since you left us. They tell me time heals... I guess. My heart still breaks and I am sad to be without you. But I know you are loving Heaven and being with everyone!!
I have had 2 cardinals around her for several days. I am sure it is you and perhaps Terry telling me things will be ok. I go to your tree and talk to you, that gives me peace.
I love and miss you Mother.

I only was able to meet Nannie through the stories and hearts of her daughter and granddaughter. But what I do know of her well is that she brought into this world and raised within it two generations of thoughtful, kind and loving people. That is a testament to who she is and I'm thankful for the legacy she leaves through her amazing family. Love to you.

My Aunt Rosie

September 7, 2013
Well, where do I start? Aunt Rosie has always been with me whether physically or in my memories. Not one day goes by that I do not think about her. Probably because she gave me most of what is in my house! I will always be grateful for being able to live across the street from her on 3rd Circle Prospect during my formidable years and boy did she form them! That was where I learned to decorate,"Every room needs a touch of red", go to yard sales, make something beautiful out of nothing, learn about hootenannies, Mr. Petty, Goldie, Francis, and Phyllis, Ashland Oil dinners, ruben sandwiches, honky tonk songs as well as hymns sung about our precious Savior! Oh what good times!! Even though I lived across the street it wasn't good enough. I ran away from home to Aunt Rosie's to live with her. I knew she was special even when I was a little girl! She would go to yard sales and bring back such treasures that I would think they must have come from some exotic and expensive place! This thought was fueled on by Rosie telling me that if anyone asked where a trinket or bauble came from to say "Pollocks" and for clothing items "Parsons". She really was a hoot! Later after we moved to Walters Hill Drive and she to Condit Street, I still saw her just about daily since it was still in walking distance. She would stop by to see if my grandmother needed anything from the store. I remember when she would go to run errands, her hair was fixed, lipstick was on, pretty scarf around her neck and tucked into her coat and isotoner gloves on her hands. She was a class act! My Aunt Rosie was always there for me no matter what was going on she always had time for me and I adored her...still do! I could go on and on about my memories of Rosa Raye Cox Daniel Brooks but I will just cling to this thought ... when it is my time to go live with Jesus, I know that Rosie, Faye, and my grandmother will be there to help me cross over the Jordan and what a glorious "Hootenannie" that will be!

Memory

August 30, 2013

Most of the memories I have of Aunt Rosie were made prior to my family moving to Florida in the 60's.

Aunt Rosie was such a beautiful, fun loving person and my sister, Billie Jean, and I loved spending time at her home with Butch, Terry and Sally.

I remember Aunt Rosie being a "clean freek" and somehow we would manage to end up spending the night only to get up the next morning to the dreaded "cleaning day".  I believe that the militay could have really used Rosie to head their cleaning/inspection department.  She was relentless.

We would talk Rosie into driving us around the "Blue Grass".  We probably ran into Gwen on some of those drive throughs and I can't see her being overly enjoyed to see us.

Then there were black berry picking jaunts and even trips to a certain cemetary.

There will always be a special place for her in my heart and although she is no longer with us here in this world she is free of pain and suffering and having a great time in heaven with her family and my mother.  Thank you Lord for the wonderful memories I have of Aunt Rosie.

My Mother-in-law.

August 23, 2013

About 25 years ago, Larry Morrison, a friend from my office in Denver stopped by my cubicle.  "I know everything about you", he said.   "I know where you went to high school, college, your wife Sally, your kids, when you got married --EVERYTHING."
Russ:  "Uhh...what are you talking about?"
Larry: "Well I flew back to Denver from Cincinatti yesterday, and sat next to this nice, retired lady. We began to talk and she asked what I did, where I worked, etc. Once she found out we worked in the same office, I learned she was on her way to visit your family in Denver.  Her descripion of your family and the pride she took in her grandchildren was comprehensive to say the least.  She was so genuine, funny, and full of life. I really enjoyed the flight."

Larry would occasionally mention that trip to me through the years, ask how Rosie is doing,  and always repeat how much he enjoyed meeting her.  Rosie touched so many throughout her life, I know this is but one example of the positive, outgoing nature of this fine woman who indeed "never met a stranger".
As for me, I am quite certain that no man ever had a better mother-in-law.
