Par 3 for the Geese
We decided to change our scenery one day and headed out to the Rubio Woods trail which surrounds a public golf course. Soon after we began our trek we heard what we thought were hundreds of very loud geese cackling on the green. Because Rubio Woods is very dense with trees we could not see the geese from where we were on the trail. We had come to the end of the trail where there was a clearing. What we saw on the golf course turned out not to be geese, but a large group of women laughing loudly, enjoying a ladies golf outing!
Needless to say, we couldn't wait to tell dad.
I have many stories/memories. I remember the first time I met Rosalie, I was 10 and her and art were new to the neighborhood. Tammy was just a baby and I wanted to babysit but 2 other girls on block that were older than me also wanted to. My mom encouraged me to fill out an index card with my info and my babysitting certificate I had just received.
I was so excited when Rosalie called. After that all my memories began.I always felt like family. I was included in many trips and became great friends with her niece Susan .
I miss her so much. I always think of her. Her smile would light up a room and the sound of her gentle soft spoken voice. .. love and miss you my friend.
figure 8
When I was a very young girl, whenever I was upset and crying about something Mom would trace a figure 8 around my eyes with her fingers. It was so soothing and always helped me stop crying. Sometimes even now when I am upset I trace my own figure 8 around my eyes, thinking Mom is with me, thanks Mom.
Cartwheels
When we were kids we use to walk uptown to the local dentist, Mom told us that if none of us had a cavity she would do cartwheels all the way home. I always hoped that we would not have cavities I wanted to see her do this so bad, but needles to say I never got to see her do cartwheels home.
There is a hanger on your coat
I have so many stories I'm sure I'll be sharing here, and please anyone who visits, please share your stories, no matter how small or silly they may seem to you...her family and everyone loves to hear stories about Rose, it is a great comfort to us.
So...this is a funny story my mom remembered and also mentioned in a "My Life" book I gave to her to write down her stories many years ago before she got sick.
My mom had a long dark lavender wool winter coat with a belted waste. Rose was always cold and often kept her coat on when we sat in church. One day at church, when it was time to stand during mass, the woman in the pew behind us tapped my mom on the shoulder to let her know "there is a hanger on your coat." One of the coat hangers had fallen in between the belt and her coat when my mom took the coat out of the closet, but when she put it on she could not feel it stuck back there at all...not walking around, not when we got in the car, and not even when we sat down in the wood pew at church. When the woman told us it was there, mom's face turned beet red. I helped my mom get the hanger from being stuck, but of course being a teenager I though this was hilarious. I could not stop laughing, and because we had to be quiet in church I had to stiffle my laughter, but I was laughing so hard I was crying, and that made my mom start to laugh and we both were sitting there laughing hard, but with our hands over our mouth and faces, hunched over like two mischievious kids, in church. My mom said she was so embarrassed, but I was glad she could laugh about that too.
