A loving daughter, sister, wife, aunt, mother, friend, and a caring nurse.

Rosary C. Castro-Olega, 63, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2020. She was born October 7, 1956 in Los Angeles, California. Rosary was a caring and genuine individual who would put others before herself. She is a Franklin High School Alumni 1974 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science: Nursing from the University of San Francisco in 1978. By 1980, she worked as a registered nurse for Cedar-Sinai Medical Center for 37 years and retired in 2017. After retirement, she continued to perform her duties as a traveling nurse as well as make time for herself, family, and friends. Since her college years, she has been taking the time to visit the world and travel internationally.
Rosary always took the time to attend every special event, birthdays, celebrations, parties, dances, etc. even if she just finished a 12 hour shift at the hospital. She enjoyed life to the fullest doing what she wanted and went for it. When it came to dancing, she danced like there was no tomorrow. She also enjoyed capturing every moment of her family and friends through videos and pictures in order to share with her family and friends. One of her favorite celebrities in the world was Kobe Bryant and was a huge fan of him and the Los Angeles Lakers. She loved going to the games, wear Lakers colors and/or Kobe shirts, and cheer out loud for her favorite Los Angeles team.
Rosary is survived by her three daughters, Tiffany, Tatiana, and Trisha; her daughter-in-law, Mayra; her husband, Mario; her brothers, Jessie and Joe; and her sisters, Conchita, Rosalie, and Pauline. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesusa and Pascal; and brother Daniel Dizon.

Mom, I can’t believe a year ago today my heart shatter into pieces. I was not ready to let you go. That day, I felt my life go dark and I felt empty. That was the most hardest day in my life along with that entire week.

This entire past year has been such a rough time to go through all of the first of everything without you. It was hard to not have you here physically with me to celebrate all the holidays and special events with you by my side.

I miss receiving your Easter gift from you, giving you your Mother’s Day present and card, hearing you scream and cheer from the stands if I had a graduation ceremony, watching fireworks for 4th of July with you, celebrating my birthday with you, going to Disneyland for your birthday, carving pumpkins with you, sharing our Thanksgiving meal, seeing the Christmas decorations at Disneyland, and bringing in the New Year together. I miss sharing all these special moments with you. And I know it will continue to be difficult for me.

I have tried each day to remind myself that you wouldn’t want me to live in sadness and tears. Some days were easier than others but most days the pain is still there.

You will always be my light and my hero who wasn’t afraid to be yourself and did everything that made yourself and others around you happy. You will always be the life of the party who loves dancing, singing, and taking millions of photos. You will always be my hard working & supportive Mom who has taught me to be helpful, caring, and supportive of others.

Your smile will forever light my day and your heart will forever bring love and care. You will forever be loved and remembered by me and the many you have left behind. Until we meet again, Mom, and until then, I will and I promise to continue to live life to the fullest with love, joy, and happiness for you and myself and the many in my life like you have.

I love you, Mom, with all of my heart and I miss you so much. It will never be goodbye. Until we meet again, Mom.

I love you, Mom

I read about your mother and the disproportionate amount of Filipino nurse deaths, and wanted to let you know that your mother was a hero and saved many lives in her lifetime without the need for acknowledgment because I’m sure she would say it’s just her job and carried on, but she won’t be forgotten by the many people she took care of. My father retired in the Philippines and married a local woman who’s sister was a nurse and in his last days her sister was there everyday taking care of him until he passed away 8 years ago. I have seen the caring nature of the Filipino people and dedication they have. My sincere condolences to your entire family and prayers.

To my twin sister Rosary,
Will miss my twin sister Rosary forever. She worked so hard so that she and her family can enjoy life. Sad that this evil virus took her life from us and weeks before she was just blessing others affected by this COVID-19. Heaven gained another angel. I had prayed and cried to God to make her well. I also asked God to take her, if she is suffering too much, to be with my mom, dad, brothers Danny & David, cousin Gene, nephew Jonathan, and Cynthia Raagas. She seem like she suffered just a week, but cannot know how long. She must had been worrying about others and not caring for herself. I will always look up to the heaven and look for you. Know you are enjoying singing and dancing in heaven with family and friends. Like in “Ice Castle” reaching out to touch you and through the eyes of love. May God bless our family and friends and keep us from harm and sickness! We all need to take care of ourselves for family and friends.
STAY HOME! For us essential worker STAY SAFE! SAVE LIVES!
Rest in Heaven Rosary Celaya Castro-Olega! (10/7/56 to 3/29/20)
You will always be my hero. A hero lies in you. Family and friends will always miss you cause you just wanted to enjoy life to the fullest. Love you and miss you forever!

As much as it hurts that Rosary's gone but she was a woman who I've known since I was 9 or 10 years old. It saddens me to even state this because she was such an amazing person and she was loved by everyone she met. Rosary was no stranger when it came to health crises due to the fact that she was a Registered Nurse for decades. And even though she had been retired for a few years she still kept her nursing license valid and continued to work shifts at various hospitals in Los Angeles county. And even with a pandemic sweeping the world, she was on the frontlines fighting COVID-19 as recently as 2 weeks to her passing. There were several elements that made Rosary the person she was, To include her love for her county and support she had for our service members and our county, I should know when I joined the U.S. Air Force over a year ago she supported my ambition of service. Another key element to this amazing woman was her Catholic faith regularly attending Catholic mass at St. Charles Borromeo in North Hollywood when she lived in the San Fernando Valley, as well as attending Mass in Valencia. As a nurse she performed God's will as a Registered Nurse healing God's people of all there ailments no matter how big or how small she was a woman of God healing the sick. While she may or may not have known it but she lived Ignition Spirituality by being a woman for others nursing. One thing that CAN NOT be forgotten when talking about Rosary Celaya Castro-Olega is that along with being a woman for others are the four people who were the center of her whole life her three wonderful daughters Tiffany Olega being her oldest and her twin daughters who I had the privilege of growing up with Tatiana Olega and Trisha Olega and later her daughter in law Mayra Olega Gutierrez with these for wonderful women Rosary legacy will NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!! I close in prayer asking the Lord our God to console the Olega family as they grave the loss of there mother. But for Tiffany, Tatiana, and Trisha and Mayra not to mention her twin sister Rosalie Castro, her sister Pauline Castro I want to assure you that God our Father is mindful of you for he too had a son who died Jesus Christ the Lord who is our advocate with the Father, The Prince of Peace, our savior and our redeemer and I know as an RN who performed God's will healing the sick and she is enjoying eternal life with Him and Jesus Christ. Rosary made sure to keep our cousin-bond strong throughout the years. I had the great pleasure of sharing many special family occasions with Rosary as she was always welcoming and gracious. She was full of warmth and joy. Her smile and kindness made you feel your presence was appreciated with her whole heart. She was such a beautiful woman through and through. Our family has lost such an incredibly lovely soul.

Dearest Rae, you left us way too early. It's hard to rationalize that there is some underlying reason for it, but ultimately we hope that we will be reunited and you continue to be the life of the party. I thank you for allowing me to be part of the big circle. You were there for so many family and friends. You would've given the last clothing you had to help someone in need. I will miss you. Our hearts are broken, but in fine Rosary fashion, we will hold your spirit as an aura to inspire us to be kind, generous and caring. This is your legacy, for which you are so loved. Until we meet again, please watch over Lei (she lost her other half), Mario, Tiffany, Tatiana and Trisha, the rest of your family and all of us still on this earthly travel.

Mom has reached many of our hearts over the span of years she had with each of us. As her oldest daughter of three, she has given me the best 29 years of my life. I wish I could have had more, but she gave me a life full of love, joy, and care. She always had family come first before herself and I really admired my mother for that. She took care of each of my friends as if they were her daughters and son. She took care of her friends as if they were her sisters and brothers. And she took care of individuals who were in need of her care and aid.

She was always able to attend special events and celebrations even though she just finished a 12 hour shift at the hospital. She enjoyed dancing and spending time with family and friends. She worked hard to support her family. She had a huge fan crush on her Laker Man Kobe Bryant (she even went to his last game and the first Laker game after he passed).

Throughout social media like Facebook and Instagram, there have been many individuals reaching out and expressing how amazing and wonderful my mother is and was. She was a genuine, selfless, caring, loving, adventurous, hardworking, and spontaneous woman. We will miss her dearly and will forever love her.

Thank you CNN, Tita Gertrude, and Tita Jollene  for taking the time to talk about Filipino nurses, and especially my Mom.

Reading articles about my Mom was difficult but this podcast was more emotional for me to hear. Thank you so much, Tita Gertrude for being great friends with my Mom since she was 20 years old and all of your kind words you said of her. I know my Mom cherished your friendship with all her heart

The week my Mom was in ICU was definitely the hardest for all of us. I hated that I couldn’t be by her side. The only time I was able to...was when her Doctor said since she was critical. I was only permitted to sit on the other end of her glass door for 30 mins to an hour.

I am thankful for her two nurses that was there with me that day. They took the time to set up the phone system that connected me to her bedside phone to the front desk, which was right in front of her room. There, I played over 100 voicemails from family and friends.

This was Friday, the day her Doctors told me she wouldn’t make it through the night, the same day we admitted both of my sisters into the same hospital for COVID as well.

All three were hospitalized for Saturday and then Sunday. My sisters were discharged Sunday to quarantine at home in order to make space for other COVID patients who were critical.

30 mins later...my Mom had found peace.

It has been about 9 and a half months since my Mom became our Purple Guardian Angel, but that week at the end of March still plays in my head and the emotions from that week still feel like it was yesterday.

Thanksgiving and Christmas are two of my Mom’s favorite holidays (well all the holidays are her favorite because it is time with family) and it definitely has been the most difficult. I know my Mom would want us to continue to be happy and enjoy each moment of life like the way she has, and we have, but it definitely has been the most emotional year.

We miss you so dearly, Mom  and you have and will always be...THE LIFE OF THE PARTY

Every year, my Mom always enjoyed celebrating her special day with family and friends. Most of her birthdays were spent at her favorite place, Disneyland. Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, we were unable to celebrate at her favorite place. But for her next birthday, I hope to celebrate her at Disneyland. Happy Heavenly Birthday, Mom. I should’ve posted here on your birthday but it was a difficult time for me but we still celebrated you with purple balloons filled with our personal messages and tied them to the fence of your house. At night, we were able to add candles and remember the happy memories you have left behind. I love you, Mom, forever and always
