I met Rosemary in the summer of 71 at the UW Arboretum and worked with her until her retirement 9 years later. She was an amazing bundle of energy, enthusiasm and drive. She provided me with opportunities to teach, meet interesting people, and learn the craft of managing natural areas. She planted the first prairie in the Dane County park System in the summer of 73 from seeds collected by her girl scouts and cleaned in her living room with Walt's help. Ten years ago we planted a plain dark colored glacial boulder in front of that acre of prairie with a plaque dedicating it to Rosemary Fleming. The most inspiring teacher ever.

Thanks Rosemary

I am not sure how to leave a tribute to a woman who influenced my life in so many ways. By recognizing a love of nature in me and providing a role model when there were so few women to do so, "Kim" (camp name) shaped my educational and career goals. She continued to be a lifelong friend and inspiration to me and I will miss her sparkling presence and intense love of life always.

What a gracious lady! As a novice Master Gardener in 2002, I was awed by her knowledge of "things natural" and love of same. Little did I know she was 82 yrs. old at the time and still going strong. I truly appreciate her strength of character and willingness to share. Thank you, Rosemary

I was very saddened to hear of Rosemary's passing, she was truly an inspiration. She taught us the true meaning of sharing your knowledge. I can honestly say that I have never met a more dedicated, compassionate person. I know her family will miss her, but she left an eternal mark on the world, knowing her has meant a lot to many.

Rosemary was a wonderful person. I met her through The Coccoloba Chapter of The Native Plant Society. I met her late in her life and I learned from her then but can only imagine if I had known her when she was younger! She had such knowledge to share and was a true nature lover PLUS called it as she saw it!!

Rick my brother!
I am so sorry for your loss but I know you mom is in a much better place now! I did not have the pleasure of meeting her but I know you and based on that she must have been a wonderful caring woman.
She also must have had the patience of Job! :)

Rick,
I didn't have the pleasure of meeting your Mom, but knowing what a wonderful son she raised, she had to have been an inspiration to all who knew her. Our world is a better place because of her.
I love you, my thoughts and prayers go out to you. (Mosquito)

Rosemary, I met you at Girls Camp and learned so much about the natural world and how to teach about that, from you. You were also a wonderful friend and always sharing. I will miss you but I know you are in a good place. My love, Sandy

Your name is an herb that was part of Christ as were you. Everyone who ever knew you was touched by your love, knowledge &kindness. Your willingness to share your knowledge was unsurpassed. Always there with the answers-no matter what the questions-of course if it were about flora or fauna, then the encyclopedia was recited in the most interesting story ever told! Thank you Rosemary

I first met Rosemary in 1978 when we were both "Shawnee Raiders" at Camp Black Hawk. We became friends and more than friends. Rosemary was also a teacher and mentor. I learned so much from her and was inspired by her to learn more about the bog and the meadows etc, then to take that information and learn to share it. Her generosity knew no bounds. Dear friend, sadly missed.

This is a continuation: My last memory of Rosemary was when she moved out of her home in Fort Myers Shores...She was lying on the bed--Dr.'s orders---instructing all of her friends that were there packing her up.  The world was a better place because she was in it!
She will make a terrific angel!

When I came to Fort Myers in 1998, Rosemary was one of the Master Gardeners as well as being in the Coccoloba Chapter of the Native Plant Society with me. She was at that time 78 and could outwork most of us. She had already lost her beloved Walt and joined and volunteered for everything that came up! She was always a very busy lady, so much fun, so friendly, always so willing to help.

Rosemary was an inspiration to everyone. Her energy and enthusiasm were infectious. Best memory was the year she came to our house for Christmas dinner. She charmed everyone with her master gardener stories. She left a living legacy with everything she planted at Buckingham Presbyterian. She will always be remembered. Our deepest sympathy to all of her family. There are no appropriate words for Rosemary, she loved life and everything in it including her church, Buckingham Presbyterian Church Ft Myers, Fl. And all her friends there. She knew how to look at a tree or bush and could tell you all about it, seeing things no one else could see. The former children at BPC will not forget her either.

We knew Rosemary from Buckingham Presbyterian Church. Of curse we only knew her in her later years, but from some of the stories she told she must have been an amazing woman in her younger years. Girl Scouts, nature lover, church helper. Rick, you were lucky to have a Mom like her. We all wish we could live as full a life as she did.

Rick,

I feel very privileged to have been able to meet your mom on a number of occasions, and each time I remember leaving with a sense of amazement at the incredible life that she had led. I knew she was an amazing person because of the mark she left on you- which you then left on me.

Rosemary was a beautiful woman with a quick wit, charming character, and warm nature. If you never had the chance to experience her engaging company you can rest assured that it lives on in all its vivid colors in her son. We think and wonder about God as if looking dimly in a mirror, but she now sees Him face to face. Rick, I love you. Billy

Auntie Rosemary,
Thank-You for being such a major influence in my life. I leaned to resected your straight forwardness with me, whether I liked or in some cases did not like what you had to say, you were generally right (I hated that you know) but boy did I learn. Please hug my daddy for me. I love you both!
