I still remember getting the call from Mom that morning. We miss you Roy. We have so many memories but wish you were here so that one memory was erased.❤️

Annual Worldwide Candlighting Service in Memory of Children Gone Too Soon

December 11, 2023
Held in every time zone worldwide, this service honors our children who have gone on ahead.  Roy is SO missed by our family and his friends!

A letter I recently found:
"Dear MOM,
I will always remember the time when Marlene played fetch with us.  She is so cute.  She is my favorite yellow lab ever!  I love you and all our pets.  It was SO much fun watching her with you and then playing water fetch with her.
Thank you for everything,
LOVE,
Roy

from Celebration of Life Jan 6 - Epiphany

February 25, 2018

Thank you for coming to celebrate the life of my darling Roy.

I have no idea how to say goodbye to my son - or to live without him. I need all of you and the strength of God to survive this unspeakable pain.
Roy was a miracle child: born after years of infertility and was the delight of my life. He was precocious, stubborn, tenacious and had the greatest smile. I was blessed to be his mom.

"A great sense of humor" and "very polite" is what most people say about him. Many memories of his delight in life: giggling over a frog or playing a practical joke on me will always bring me a smile. I am proud of who he was and that he had incredible empathy and love for animals and did unacknowledged acts of kindness for others.
Knowing without a shadow of a doubt that he is with our Savior in heaven is the promise that makes the difference in my sorrow - God loves him even more than I.

I love you, Roy!!!!

January 23, 2018

I am Roy’s Uncle, Marc. In the next few days, I will be adding some photos and stories to this site. In the meantime, I just want to say how much I loved him and will always love him. He was great, caring, smart, funny, polite and most of all, nice(!). My family and I are absolutely devastated by his passing and will take a long time to heal, but we will get through this. Roy would want that.

Family Time

December 29, 2017

When Roy visited me, his younger cousins were usually here, too. Roy showed great love and compassion by playing Mexican Train and letting his youngest cousin win. When we had a family reunion at Lake Tahoe, Roy saw his younger cousin walking along the beach. He got beside him and took him by the hand to make sure he was safe.

Roy adored animals, particularly Dachshunds. My two dachshunds loved him. When he came to the door they were so happy to see him because they knew he would get lots of lap time while he was here. He had one dog or the other in his lap about 90% of the time.

I am very proud of the kind, compassionate, grandson I was fortunate to have for 19 years. I hope he is getting to spend time in heaven with his grandfather that was so looking forward to his birth, but passed away six months before Roy was born.

I am the luckiest mom in the world to have Roy as my son.  I love him tremendously and enjoyed every moment we shared.  He is priceless and loved forever.

Movies

December 23, 2017

Roy absolutely loved movies, watching as many as he could. During his visits, he'd pester me relentless to go to the movie theater. Each visit was a different movie obsession. One visit it Django Unchained. Another time it was "30 Minutes or Less", starring Jesse Eisenberg.

As the credits rolled for "30 Minutes or Less", I turned to Roy, and said "You know, 30 minutes or less was how long they worked on the script."

Burgermaster

December 23, 2017

One of my favorite traditions with Roy was his final dinners in Seattle, before leaving to go back to New Hampshire. We would always eat at the Burgermaster in University Village.

Despite having great hamburgers, Roy always ordered chicken strips, fries and a chocolate shake. He dipped each fry in the shake before eating it. We always through it was odd, but he loved it.

Bike Truck Movie

December 23, 2017

As a very young child, Roy was infatuated with the Terminator 2 movie, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. It has a scene where a semi-truck chases a motorcycle through an urban Los Angeles aqueduct.

Roy loved this scene and constantly pestered me to watch the “bike truck” movie.

I love you more!

December 23, 2017

Whenever Roy and I finished a phone call, the last things we said to each other was “I love you more!”

This would ping pong back and forth many times until one of us gave up said “Bye!”

It was our secret handshake. Even in our very last phone conversation.
