October 7, 2013

Ruben was one of ten children of Leta and Jacob Means.  When he enlisted in the Army his family was farming on the family farm north of Meadow Grove.  He was nineteen years old when he entered the service and saw action in the European theater, from North Africa north into Italy, France and Germany.  Upon arriving home he married Margaret I Lieswald daughter of Ellen and Gilbert Lieswald of Meadow Grove and proceeded to farm, truck, and do blacksmith work for the surrounding farmers in a shop he owned in Meadow Grove .He and Margaret owned a farm east of Tillden and farmed for a total of 39 years.  They raised their two children Kathryn and Micheal there.  They now have a grandson working the farm. Ruben enjoyed landscaping the yard, visiting, friends and family..  He was active in the Legion Post of Tilden, a [ast scjpp; bpard member, and served on the bank board.  His family lost him much too soon of a brain aneurysm.
