Her Life

The Alcohol Years, 1959-1974

Back in 1968, Aunt Ruby drank more than she should. I would say she was an alcoholic. A funny alcoholic. She use to bug the heck out of my husband, when she got drunk I went to bed, but the politely listened to her,  “Who the hell is that cousin’? she asked. He responded “I don’t know Aunt Ruby. I used to laugh from my bedroom. hahahaha!!!

She would start cooking early morning and when he food was almost done she would crack a beer can open. Later it would progress to hard liquor. Then Muddy Walter’s blue song would start playing. Muddy Waters – “You Can't Loose What Your Never Had” or Muddy Waters - Baby Please Don't Go - that blues would play all night long.. But Muddy was the undisputed king of Chicago blues. She loved him.
