Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. -Psalm 19:14
  • 58 years old
  • Born on July 23, 1952 in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.
  • Passed away on February 23, 2011 in Washington, DC, District of Columbia, United States.

This memorial website was created in the memory of our beloved Rudolph "Rudy" Arcee who was born on July 23, 1952 and passed away on February 23, 2011. Devoted and loving husband of 34 years of Abigail Carver Arcee; proud father of sons Rudolph Washington Arcee IV and Martin Carver, and daughters Miriam Arcee Booker and Esther Arcee Abernathy Arcee; grandfather of Delilah Arcee, Thomas Arcee, Rudolph Washington Arcee V, Amaya Arcee, Delronda Abernathy, Chester Abernathy, and Hazel Carver. We will remember him forever.

In the words of Rudy’s favorite hero, John Wayne: “A man’s got to have a code, a creed to live by, no matter his job.” Rudy was a man who had a clear sense of right and wrong, and was consistent in what he believed. In his life and his work, Rudy lived the core values that are the Marine character – honor, courage and commitment. Perhaps it was also his proud heritage shining through, an ancient lineage of great warriors singing in his blood.

As all good warriors are, Rudy was strong and gentle. He gave his all to care for his family. Miriam says, “He spoiled me rotten.” And his concern extended to those outside of his family as well, willing to help others in any way he could, almost to a fault. “He would talk to everybody and everybody would talk to him, even if he didn’t want them to”, Miriam says. He was the kind of guy who, standing in a supermarket line, the person next to him would tell him their whole life story. His mother-in-law Mary, whom he affectionately called Maude, says he was the best son-in-law, and they had a wonderful relationship. She also remembers how mischievous he was – he used to purposefully annoy her by using her expensive Depression glass coasters as an ashtray.

Rudy Arcee was the baby of the family who became its patriarch; the restless dreamer
who became its rock. He was the sunny, joyful child, who bore the brunt of his brothers’
teasing, but learned quickly how to brush it off. This spirit of resilience and good humor
would see Rudy through more trials and tribulations than most of us will ever know.

For being a black man in the old days of segregation in the south tried many a man's faith
and determination. For Rudy, these challenges of bigotry awoke something within him, that
tranformed this awkward teenaged boy from Atlanta into a lion of the courts. A crusader
for civil liberties for those with light and dark skin. Rudolph Washington Arcee the
third, was the hero of his neighborhood and that's what he was in life. He wished only to be
remembered simply as a good and decent man, who saw a wrong and tried to right it, saw suffering and tried to heal it, saw descrimination and tried to stop it.

"As tempted more; more able to endure,
As more exposed to suffering and distress;
Thence, also, more alive to tenderness."
~William Wordsworth

The days without you are lonely,
The nights without you are cold,
But even though you are gone now
That burning passion will never grow old.
Sometimes I cry myself to sleep at night ,
Just knowing that you are gone, but it makes
Me feel better knowing that you are peacefully at Home.

Goodbye my love...

Love You 4ever
