Mr. Patterson was born in LaGrange, Georgia on May 25, 1955, the son of Barbara Mayo Patterson and the late, Russell Clence Patterson. He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for many years. Until the onset of his illness he was a machinist for the Southwire Manufacturing Company, as well as working for several other companies. He was a loving husband and father who had a passion for caring for others. He always put his needs aside if anyone needed his attention. Rusty also loved all kinds of animals, and was quick to take in any stays that came his way. He absolutely adored fishing and was quick to share his enthusiasm and knowledge of the sport with all his sibling and children. This dear man who loved all above himself will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his mother, Barbara Patterson; wife Sonja Patterson; two daughters Crystal Law, and Melisa Patterson; two sons, Keith Patterson, and Zachary Patterson; one sister, Dee Dee Brown (Jackie); three brothers, Jerry Patterson (Patricia), Randy Patterson, and David Patterson (Brandie); and four grandchildren, all of Franklin, Georgia.

Other than his father he was preceded in death by one son, Michael Humphrey.
