Her Life
April 29, 2021
Ruth was welcomed into the world on 20/01/1959

By parents Willis and Hilda along side them her Eldest sister Anne.

She was then joined by Clifford, Susan, Tim and and Becky.

During Ruth’s school years. She realised school wasn’t for her. She found it difficult to concentrate, and day dreamed a lot, waiting for the school day to finish. She once told a story where she took a tin of fruit and tin opener from the family kitchen and ate it at the back of class. But regretted it when she returned home as all the children where lined up and asked to own up who took it. She denied it and they all had to take the punishment. She explained felt ever so guilty afterwards…

Leading on from school, she worked at many places until she gave birth to her eldest daughter keata. The day before her 20th birthday.

As she was a single mother, she continued to provide for them both until she met her husband Graham.

As newly weds Ruth gave birth to her second daughter Rachel, 2 years after Elizabeth entered the world and after 4years. Ruth gave birth to a baby boy Daniel her youngest.

Both gave the children a happy home, even when times we’re tough and tiresome. They both worked their knuckles to the bone, to provide for their children.

Ruth was an active lady in her former years, having four children, working and looking after her late mum. She had to be here there and everywhere in minutes, which leads on to Ruth’s transport tryouts.

Ruth’s preferred form of travel at this time was a push bike. She had all kinds, a ladies bike with a wicker basket on the front, A mountain bike but the most unusual was a yellow tricycle.

A bright yellow three wheeled trike with two child seats on the back so she could take Elizabeth and Daniel to nursery everyday and get to work. The poor children could be seen swaying side to side as Ruth peddled on, racing to get to her destination.

Ruth did try to have driving lessons but her way of driving didn’t quite cut the mustard for her to pass. Many of practical lessons taken!!!

There was a time, keata had just passed her driving test and visited mum to show her the new car. Ruth had pursued keata to give her a go to show off her driving skills. Keata thought, mum will  be alright with just a simple manoeuvre surely, she’s had about fifty thousand lessons.

The manoeuvre was just to reverse off the drive and park on the road, well keata didn’t realise that Ruth didn’t actually know her peddles. Ruth put the car in reverse, kept her foot on the accelerator and couldn’t find the brake and nearly put herself and Keata’s car in the neighbours living room…..

thank god, the car stalled after mounting hitting a few kerbs.

After this event all the kids, vowed never to let mum behind the wheel of a car again and Ruth stuck to her bikes.

As time passed, Ruth and Graham grew distant from each other, after13 years of marriage, they decided to part.

Ruth had no time to reflect she remained dedicated to looking after her mother, her children and her work at st dominics convenient.

Ruth struggled financially and found it difficult looking after everyone but she was made of the strong stuff and kept going for her mum and family.

She would always put other people first, she would do anything for anyone. She just loved making other people happy. Laughter was her medicine.

One of her jobs was a carer for the in a nursing home for the elderly. She  would try and think everything and anything to put a smile on their face. She once hired a clown costume and went into work just to cheer up her much loved residents.

She would sing and dance just to make anyone laugh.

She would even sing to the tv ads.

As her children started to leave home. Just before keata left, she announced her and son in law Dean we’re expecting their first child. So with that, Ruth was over joyed she was going to be a nanny and set out straight away, buying things for the unborn.

It was a role what she was made for. She adored and spoiled all of her grandchildren. She made every effort to be at there births and to support her daughter’s.

Ruth was very hands on, helping with early morning feeds and so on

She would get down on the floor and play cars with the boys, take them fishing and to the park for as long as the could stay awake for.

After Ruth lost her mum, she lost part of herself too. She felt lost, it was such a difficult time for her.

26 years of caring for someone who supported her through thick and thin times. She felt alone.

But then more grandchildren came along but this time beautiful 3  granddaughters and last but not least another grandson.

This was the best job in the world for her, she was so grateful to have them in her life. she loved spending time with each and everyone one of them, Her best trait was making them laugh. Play pranks on them, more often enough they failed which they laughed about even more. They kept her feeling young.

She would say, Yeah, I’m down with the kids….. dressed up with in baseball cap and trainers.

They gave her nick names one being Gangster granny…as she wore shades.

Now, if anyone would to dare her, she would warn them not to as she always followed through with them dares which sometimes didn’t end well…

She always said about herself that she was nuts…. Then nutty nanny nickname was created. .

She loved it and lived up to it.

As time went by the cycling took its toll on Ruth. So she decided to get a mobility scooter. Now this wasn’t a bog standard scooter. It was a road worthy one, she was so pleased with it. It was her pride and joy. Her very own German Whip!! She’d call it.

A couple of days after she had it, she decided to go for a day out to see if it lived up to its standards.

She wanted to see how far it would go on a full battery charge.

Well, McDonald’s was her first port of call. Off she set down the a34, rain cover on. Always be prepared for the British weather!!!

As She arrived at the destination, she thought it was too much hassle to get off her scooter so she powered through the drive through. Now, to picture a mobility scooter, with gangster granny on it going through the drive through is comedy gold. Soon as She got her meal, Ruth headed for home. Just a few miles down the road she happened to look at her battery gauge and as she did the scooter came to a standstill.

The battery life was empty!!

So there she was sitting on the side of the A34 waiting for the recovery truck to come, eating her Big Mac meal. Without a care in the world.

This was Ruth all over, she didn’t care what people thought, but she cared very much for people.  Her fun loving nature was adored by many. Her outlook is life was to always laugh hard and love harder.

An amazing mother, very special grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, she will be sadly missed.

She will never be forgotten and will live on in our memories and hearts forever.

Simply the Best
