Celebration of life will be held Friday, November 10, 2023 at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church (401 S. Paul Laurance Blvd/Dayton). Visitation to begin at 12:00pm and service to follow at 1:00pm. Interment will be held Monday, November 13, 2023 at 9:00am at Dayton National Cemetery.

Ruth Belk Huguely was born August 23, 1930 in Blacksburg, SC to the union of the late Ponese McKinney, Theodore and Anna Kate Dunham Belk. She transitioned on Monday, October 30, 2023 at Maria Joseph Center.

Ruth graduated in 1947 from the Academy Street High School in Blacksburg, SC and moved to Dayton, OH where she met and married her husband, the late Sylvester Huguely, Sr. Ruth was employed at McCall Publications (Red Book) subscription department, a nurses’s aide (Good Sam Hospital and WPAFB, Bldg. 1). She was a 23-year retiree for Dayton Public Schools in food service management at Highview, Colonel White, Westwood, and Fairview Intermediate Schools.

She was a baptized believer and dedicated, faithful, supportive servant at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church for over sixty years. Over the years, she was a member of the Bible Study group, Church School, Culinary Ministry, Sisterhood, Altar Guild (past president and past treasurer), Dramatic Guild and Sanctuary Choir (past treasurer).

Ruth was recognized by the National Council of Negro Women during the organization’s special awards program, “Ladies in their Eighties” in 2011.

She was preceded in death by her beloved and faithful husband of 51 years, Sylvester Huguely, Sr., brothers: Willie Edward Belk (Harriet Keeton Belk) and David (Henrietta) McKinney, sisters: Ann McKinney (Eddie) and Alice McKinney Blackman (Bobby), grandson RaShadd Branham-Huguely, brother-in-law, William J. Huguely, son-in-law Dr. Dennis W. Weatherby, daughter-in-law Vicky Reynolds’s Huguely, dear cousin Robert L. McKinney, sister-in-law Elizabeth H. Williams, grandparents, many dear aunts, uncles and a host of cousins and friends.

Ruth Belk Huguely leaves to cherish her memory: Sylvester Huguely, Jr. (Mildred), Glenn Huguely, Luwanna Huguely Johnson, all of Dayton, OH, Marpessa Huguely Weatherby and beloved family of Alexandria, KY, sister Carrie Mae Belk Hames of Blacksburg, SC, brother and sister-in-law John and Pearl McKinney of Keysville, GA, the Willis family of Hephzibah, 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, numerous very close cousins, nieces and nephews, and a host of relatives and dear friends.

The family will meet at Golden Corral after the service on Friday. The address is 6611 Miller Ln Dayton, OH 45414
