Her Life

July 6, 2013

I think Ruth was born in upstate NY (Corning, NY?) and later moved to Pittsburgh, PA.  She met her husband Ken (Skamp) in the Les Cheneaux Islands when they were teenagers.  She was visiting with a friend; Skamp's family had a cottage on Coryell Island.  They liked going to the Bon Air Ice Cream Parlor.

They married in Miami, FL and then Skamp shipped off to war soon after.  She returned to Chatham College in Pittsburgh until she graduated and Ken returned home.

They had 3 children- Kip, Chris and Laurie.  They settled in Shaker Heights and raised their family.

They vacationed in Les Cheneaux every summer, leaving a legacy of many traditions for their 3 children, 14 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren (& more on the way!).

They loved to travel the world, on cruiseships- on oceans, seas, and rivers.  They would always share their experiences with all of us- photos & mementos.

Ruth & Skamp retired to Palm City, FL, first to Piper's Landing, then to Sand Hill Cove. Ruth loved to play golf there with friends.  She was a skilled golfer.

We will miss her very much.  She was a beautiful woman, a calm presence, and a loving mother & grandmother.

This website was Rosie's idea- she wants a place where we can leave tribute to Ruth's life; to record "Ruthisms" (just like we did for Skamp!)  Let's remember Ruth here... Thank you!
