Salli Squitieri was born on May 25th, 1954, in the town of Princeton, NJ. Salli passed away peacefully after a long battle with her health on April 14th, 2022, in New York City.  She fought with everything she had until the very end. In the days leading up to her passing, she was surrounded by Family and Friends and Much Love.

She will be remembered as a warrior, a dancer, hummingbird, champion, mentor, teacher, healer, herbalist, nature lover, traveler, aunt, momma bear, beloved friend. She was passionate, ever hopeful & positive, uncompromising, loyal and fierce. Wholly unique as a person, Salli did it her way always and had the biggest most generous heart.

A Jack of all trades, she worked in a variety of fields and vocations – including folk crafts, jewelry, herbalism, construction, estate manager, dancer, artist manager/booker/producer, venue manager, and owned several small businesses through the years. She was a lover of nature, the woods, the tropics, gardening, animals, art, music and dance.  She travelled extensively in her youth and then in her later years with her daughter. Salli lived in Canada, Mexico, St. Vincent, Jamaica, and in multiple states across the U.S.

She held a deep connection to the people and culture of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and especially working closely with musicians and artisans to help foster and support their art. Over the past year she also worked tirelessly to help with Volcano relief there.

Salli was predeceased by her parents Salvatore & Mary Squitieri, her brother Robert Squitieri and her soulmate Jim Richards.  She is survived by daughter Akia Squitieri, son-in-law, Francis Molina, her furbaby Nutmeg, her Brother Joseph & Ellen Squitieri and a large extended family which includes in-laws- Bernadette Richards, Cathy & Karl Gruetzmann, Mike Richards, John & Gina Richards, Margaret Richards, Louise Labonte and Nieces and Nephews:  Jason, Jocelyn, Amanda, Monica, Anthony, Ellen, Michael, Kathleen, Kimberly & Dana.  Her “Chosen Family” is a wide and vast group of friends from around the globe and includes some that were with her in her final days- Tiffini Minatel-Schreiber, Richard Benson, Meg Dowling, Garry “Tunka” Edwards, Diana Davis, Michelle Schellekens, Elizabeth Burke and Curtis C.

Salli will be laid to rest in the Steelmantown Cemetery in Woodbine, NJ in an intimate green burial for immediate family & close friends this week.

A Celebration of Life will occur in May or June 2022, in New York City and all are welcome to attend, with details to be announced later.

The family welcomes flowers at the time of burial service or at their home.  Friends will be sharing a Memorial Fund to assist with end-of-life expenses.

I meet Salli all during the 70s traveling around in art shows throughout Florida and Georgia. I have vivid memories of the art shows and visiting her in Princeton in 1976. She took myself David and Jon into New York City, times I’ll never forget. She had the coolest van and then her House on wheels truck, she drove and visited me in Orlando. We talked on and off while she lived in Key West and I went down to visit her and I guess I didn’t check with her first because she was out of town. Special lady In my heart always Susan (Armijo)

Salli was a delightful blessing to our family. She was an example of how to act right. She exemplified tolerance, forgiveness, humility, perseverance, work ethic, curiosity, and kindness. She WAS the change she wished to see in the world. Bye bye good Salli. Thanks for sharing the joy of eating whipped cream straight from the container. The Corley Family of Sopchoppy, Florida

For Salli-  A Story which seems to express what is in my heart

I stood watching as the little ship sailed out to sea. The setting Sun tinted her white sails with a golden light, and as she disappeared from sight, a voice at my side said, "She is gone."
But the sea was a narrow one. On the father shore a small band of friends had gathered to watch and wait in happy expectation. Suddenly they caught sight of the tiny sail and at the very moment when my friend had whispered, "She is gone." a glad shout went up in joyous welcome. "Here She comes!"

I don't think I've ever known someone quite like Salli before (that is a compliment). I'll miss her extraordinary energy and enthusiasm for life in general. Her infectious laugh and her ability to make others laugh by sharing a story or experience of hers (she had many). Her capacity to love unconditionally everyone she met, including animals. All creatures, great and small. The world lost a beacon of light, but I know my life and the lives of everyone she touched asking the way are better for having known her. Miss you Salli!

WE LOVED YOU, SALLI!

April 19, 2022
I have never met such a true Child of the Universe as Salli.  She loved everyone, and everyone loved her.  She loved and treasured the Universe as much as she did the animals in her care.  She gave herself fully to every task, and she had many that she did very creatively.  I wish everyone would have such a kind and loving heart as Salli. I hope that she went to God's Heaven, and feels all the happiness and joy and love and health there, with lots of nature and happily running and loving fur babies, to expand the joy. She even took in and sold some of my paintings, displaying them so artistically and beautifully, in her exquisite set ups. Thank-you for being YOU, Salli. We will miss you SO much.  You were a gift to us. Thank-you.  Love, Priscilla
