Sallie Smith Powell, 96, a longtime resident of Butner died Sunday, June 12th at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham.

 

A native of Franklin County, the widow of James E. Powell Sr. and the daughter of the late Hugh K. and  Mavis Dickerson Smith. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Butner and a retired Healthcare Supervisor at Murdoch Center.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 14th at First Baptist Church in Butner by Rev. Lenny Rogers. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor.

She is survived by a daughter, Betty Powell Aiken of Butner, a daughter-in-law, Eloise Powell of Louisburg, a granddaughter, Deb Aiken Andrews and husband Kipp of Raleigh. She was GG to great grandchildren, Kylie and Kole Andrews. She was preceded in death by a son, James E. Powell Jr. and a grandson, Michael Andrew Powell, three sisters and four brothers.

Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to Hock Family Pavilion, 4023 North Roxboro Road, Durham , NC 27704

Visitation 12:30 -2:00 PM Tuesday, June 14th prior to the service in the Family Life Center of the First Baptist Church in Butner and at other times at 613 21st Street, Butner, NC 27509.
