Salvatore "Sam" Vincent Gangemi, 63, of Mullica Hill, NJ. Beloved father of Brittney Michele Gangemi, brother of Vince (Judy), John (Judy) and Joanne (Mike), and son of the late Angie and Vince Gangemi.

Sam left this life on Wednesday January 13th, 2021, just a few weeks short of his 64th birthday. He was a devoted son and a proud father who could always be seen and heard on the sidelines of his daughter Brittney’s sporting events. Sam also had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews and their children. We are sad he will not be able to share that love with his grandchildren someday, but we rejoice knowing that he now resides in Heaven with his parents.

Growing up on the family farm, Sam had developed a passion for many things. He was a hard worker and an avid deer hunter. He was a devoted Ford fan. He was a proud American and was equally proud of his Italian heritage; he enjoyed good Italian food and mob movies. He was also a skilled mechanic. However, perhaps Sam’s greatest passion was being behind the wheel. He could be seen driving his bright red dump truck all over South Jersey. He was also a life-long racing fan, who frequented the local dirt tracks such as Bridgeport, New Egypt, and Grandview. Throughout the years, Sam was both a devoted driver and crew member on various modified, sportsman, and sprint car teams. He had a need for speed and loved to go fast.

Sam was a fixture around the Mullica Hill area. He loved to reminisce about the old days, and always enjoyed a good conversation with friends. Whether he was on the jobsite, at the racetrack, or eating at the Harrison House Diner or Amish Market, seemingly everyone knew him and enjoyed a good laugh from him. He will be greatly missed.

A public viewing will be held Friday, January 22, 2021 from 10:30 am-12:30 pm at FERTIG FUNERAL HOME, 63 N. Main St., Mullica Hill, NJ 08062. Mass of Christian Burial and interment will be held privately. Please be mindful of all COVID-19 safety measures, including wearing a mask and social distancing.

*Sam's Mass of Christian Burial will be livestreamed. Link can be found at www.holyspiritweb.org, under Parish Mass Livestreaming.

I knew Sam from the Amish Market. He was a friend of my dad's when they were young. He had a story about every thing and everyone. Sam was like South Jersey. He was a fixture, deep in the bones of these small towns in an ever progressing world. Like the rodeo, the speedway, old barns on back roads, and John Deeres in front of traffic jams. And Sam being gone is like a warehouse sign in front of farm fields and demolished barns. It's sad, it's wrong. And he will be missed by South Jersey.

My beloved BFF and Gangemi family, I have such wonderful memories of Sam while growing up as his baby sisters best friend. I remember him paying for me to go see a HS football game, the way we could hear him scream from the shower when someone turned on the hot water from the kitchen faucet, ( because he was getting ice cold water) and how he always called me “ Big Blondie.” He always had a smile and was always kind....to me. I remember watching him race his stock car at the track with Joanne! Wonderful memories are what keep you alive in my heart Sam! Love you always, your Big Blond!

Sam, you will be sorely missed. When I first moved to Bishop Rd. in 1967, you and John Clendining welcomed me with open arms. You were always so sweet to everyone who met you. God will have you up at the Pearly Gates welcoming the multitudes with an open heart. I am proud to have counted you as a friend all throughout our school days, my prayers are there for your family and friends.

I’ve known Sam for just about 36 years. I met him just days after his 28th birthday in 1985 when I drove to his parents’ farm to see his sister, Joanne. Being a "Ford guy," I immediately gained Sam's approval when I pulled up in my old Ford, albeit a piece of junk as it was my very first car (lol). As a teenager at that time, I looked up to Sam and admired him. He always took me “under his wing” and took me to the dirt track races, helped me with car repairs, and gave me advice and life lessons. He was the kind of person who would do anything for anybody and do it with pleasure.

I remained friends with Sam over all these years, although I didn’t get to see him as much as I would have liked because our responsibilities just got in the way. However, I would call him just to say “hi” and would run into him now and again at the Harrison House or the Richwood Wawa, where we would catch up about our lives and families. Sam was the kind of friend that no matter how much time had passed, we could pick up right where we left off.

Sam touched many lives in this world and was loved by many, and he definitely made a positive difference in my life. I have many great memories with Sam and I will never forget him. My prayers and deepest condolences go out to his entire family. You are home with the Lord now, Sam. Rest In Peace My Friend!

I met Sam a few years ago through Cathy. He was a joy to be around and would talk about anything and everything. He was very good to the family and a stand up guy. He would tell me about all his favorite Italian restaurants. Lol! One of his favorites being “Tarantella’s!” Which is now one of my favorites. Sam will forever be missed. ❤️

Sam was an incredibly sweet man. I will not soon forget the kindness he showed me as a young, probably very annoying high schooler dating the daughter he cared for deeply - enough so to make me feel like a part of a big but tightly-knit family. My thoughts are with Brittney and the family he loved so much.

Forever in my heart

My memories of Sam started at the Harrison House. I was working there and we soon became friends. Sam a true gentleman from the start he offered to pick me up and drive me to work during a snowstorm. He had heard me telling a friend how afraid I was driving in the snow ❄️ Sam picked me up in his Red Truck Assuring me that it was safe to be in during the snowstorm. When my Shift was over he text me and asked me if I needed a ride home. That’ when I knew he was truly a good person with a big heart ❤️ Shortly after we became a couple.  Our first date he brought my Mother flowers My family and friends loved him.  Sam had a special bond with my grandaughter Ella he would pick her up and call her Ella Bella! She loved hanging out with us. He enjoyed coming to Manny and Alex’s Baseball and basketball games. We enjoyed many family dinners together. Sam  was there for me during the saddest time in my life . We just chatted about having a long overdue vacation to Florida. The love and memories we made will always live on in my heart. I thank God for you and know I’ll see you again, I love you

We met Sam when Brittney was in High School. He was very good to our son Jimmy. He had just finished his home on Gangemi Lane and was so proud of it and Brittney’s room. My favorite memory of Sam was from one day on my way to work. I had stopped at the Wawa on 322 (before the new one was built) to buy lunch. When I went to the counter to pay, a voice came from behind, “put that on my bill, she doesn’t pay”. It was wonderful to see him and such a nice thing for him to do. He was a very special guy.
