It is such a sad shock to learn of Sam's passing just now as I spent a lot of wonderful time with him. Regrettably , we lost more frequent touch over time and the distance. It is never too late to remember someone that you loved and to his family, I can only say how sorry I am for your loss and wish I had known before. Sam was a kind and gentle man and I will always hold wonderful and special thoughts of him and will miss his presence. I know how much he loved all of you - especially his family and friends as well. I am truly so very sorry.....Linda

Sam was very involved in the hiring of new pilots in the 80's, and always treated us "pilot candidates" like fellow aviators.
After getting hired, even when he didn't quite remember you, he was always sincerely warm and genuine, always had time to ask how it was going, how's the family, where are you living now, etc.
I used to spend a lot of time in the cities as an IP and would often see him at NATCO, and occasionally run into him at a restaurant, usually on west 496. He would light up as soon as he saw me and always make me remember why I was always glad to see him. Sam never met a new guy or gal. Just the fact that you were an aviator was the only ticket you needed to have a seat at his table. If you were the friend of a friend, you were a friend.
I am so saddened by the news of his passing. I too have so many memories of some of our encounters, some of the efforts he made on my behalf, but what always comes to mind is his genuine caring nature. The world has really suffered another huge loss with Sam's passing. I can only imagine how much he is missed by those of you, especially his family, who felt that warmth every day. Godspeed, Sam. Fly Safe.

Dad, I'll miss you so much. You taught how to live a rich fun filled life. I loved our dinner dates and our many many years on the beach together. You were the best grandpa, I love how you had a relationship with each of my kids and knew them as individuals. I hope we made you proud yesterday and honored you the way you deserved. You are one of the good ones...xo

I will always remember back on my time with Sam and appreciate every minute of it. He was a fantastic grandpa for my 3 boys. He was a great mentor and never missed an opportunity to play some "safety and receiver" on the beach with them. He taught me many things which I consider invaluable in my life. We miss you Sam! Every time I have a scotch, I will be toasting to you!!

What can one say bad about Sam? Nothing. He was a genuine consummate  gentleman, and very skillful pilot. He loved his family, and when you were within his company, he was just a very pleasant man. God bless Sam's family. Our prayers are with you and Sam.

Sam and I started NWA as pilot classmates, became friends, with many favorable memories, during the intervening years.  Sam was a wonderful acquaintance, as our histories, family activities, career interests were comparable, in gratifying ways.  My foremost recollection of Sam, is he was always willing to be involved, and helpful, whether it be a suggestion, or participating, in constructive ways, making improvements, as needed. RIP!!
