A son of the late Johnnie and Daisy McNair Dodson, Mr. Dotson was born in Albany, GA on April 6, 1944. He was a U. S. Army Veteran who retired following 22 years of service, and was also retired as Deputy Warden at Jack T. Rutledge Correctional Institute. He was a faithful member of Holsey Chapel CME Church where he served as a Trustee, President of the Men's Fellowship Ministry, and Vice President of the Senior Ushers Ministry.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Andre and Johnnie Dotson.

Surviving his departure with cherished memories, include: his wife of 30 years, Mrs. Janice A. Dotson; his children, Catrice Duhart (Thomas), Samuel L. Dotson, Jr. (Tywana), Renee Allen, Rev. Daniel Dotson (Chirnique) and Christopher Dotson; his beloved grandchildren; a brother, Cornell Dotson (Annie); four sisters, Irma James, Lizzie M. Dotson, Elizabeth Williams (Emmitt), Carol James (Jesse); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
