Dear Sam Rest In Peace

May 16, 2013

It's with a heavy heart i pen this message , I was shocked to hear the sad news, of your sudden demise.

But I have had time to reflect and had the opportunity to speak to your sister , and Mum, they all miss you Sam. Your siblngs , mum , extended family and friends miss you already .

We would all mss you Really sad you went so early !!!!!!!

If i had to start recalling our wonderful childhood in GRA Bota full of enduring and lasting memories it will take forever , but i remember your wit ,mischief, stoicism in times of diffiulties , fun ,wisdom for cooling the flames when we got into trouble while playng "inter quartier" or escapades going into town at night , nightclubs etc .

We looked up to you because you were hip, bold , knowledgeable , slightly older , knew about girls, savvy , and deem to be wiser. But i remember you getting a bunch of us into trouble with the local Law enforcers because of one of your funny escapades.

The memory of that night still lives on with me , i had the opportunity to recall the experience with Dibo. I will always have fun memories of you , victor , your beautiful sisters , gentle Mum and your late Dad .

Dear Sam rest in perfect peace I found these words spoken by Lord Balfour , who was Prime Minister of the UK in the last century apt to share

"The best thing to give to your enemy is forgiveness;
to an opponent ,tolerance ;
to a friend , your heart;
to your child , a good example
to a father deference
to your Dear Mum , conduct that will make her proud of you; to yourself ,
respect to all men charity".

I know you met the criteria of ths quote Dear Sam What is a family? Well there are many definitions, but this is one which i particularly like:

A family is people who care when you are sad Who love you no matter what, Who share your triumphs'
Who don't expect you to be perfect
Just growing with honesty In your own direction .

Rest in peace till we meet again I am sure you are already with late Dad and Ernest Ndiba your cousin enjoying their exquisite company away from the daily challenges and problems of the living ,

.How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders ! his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. and his dominion is from generation to generation .

One Day At A Time

May 8, 2013

There are two days in the week upon which I never worry-two carefree days kept sacredly free from fear and apprehension. One of these days is yesterday. Yesterday...with all its cares and frets and all its pains and aches..all its faults..its mistakes and blunders, has passed forever beyond my call. And the other day that I do not worry about is tomorrow. Tomorrow....with all its possible adversities...its burdens...its perils...its large promise and poor performance...its failures and mistakes, is far beyond my mastery as its dead sister, yesterday. Tomorrow is God's day;it will be mine. There is left for myself, then, but one day in the week-today. Any man can fight battles of today. Any woman can carry the burdens of just one day;any man can resist the temptations of today. It is only when we willfully add the burdens of those two awful eternities.....yesterday and tomorrow-burdens as only our Mighty God can sustain, that we break down. It isn't the experiences of today that drive men mad. It is the remorse of what happened yesterday, and fear of what tomorrow might bring. These are God's days. Leave them to Him. Authur?????????????????????  As Jabeya's eldest cousin I want to say R.I.P. Mr. Samuel N. Epie

Mischief

May 6, 2013

I have been thinking of all the mischief that Sam was involved in when we were growing up:

Urgent bolo - during 3rd term holidays. If i have to explain this one, you did not grow up in cameroon.

Driving all the kids in Aunty Vickys volkswagen, parents had no idea. Papa used to wonder how the petrol in the car kept reducing when he only warmed up the car. No idea how sam learned to drive, he was probably 16 and we thought he was so cool.

Calling me "Aaron Ngwe" when I gave reports of the days activities

I credit you with my love for reading, I used to steal your James Hardley Chase books, then when i got the Boston strangler book and you wanted to read it first, you told Mami i was reading books that were to old for me, so she took it and gave it to you.

A poem for Sam

May 4, 2013

Death be not proud

Death be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadfull, for, thou art not soe,
For, those, whom thou think'st, thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poore death, nor yet canst thou kill mee.
From rest and sleepe, which but thy pictures bee,
Much pleasure, then from thee, much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee doe goe,
Rest of their bones, and soules deliverie.
Thou art slave to Fate, Chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poyson, warre, and sicknesse dwell,
And poppie, or charmes can make us sleepe as well,
And better then thy stroake; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleepe past, wee wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die.

Will Miss You

May 4, 2013

"Epi" as I  fondly called you, I am still in shock, denial and pain. We would never know why you decided to leave us and so suddenly. Hopefully I will gradually find comfort in accepting the fact that God knows why and it was his call, and that you are in the most WONDERFUL place where eternal peace reigns.

I will miss your wit, the stories and the laughs.

Till we meet again, love forever.

Sam You will Forever Be Missed

May 2, 2013

My dear Sam you will forever be missed because you are irreplaceable. Your departure has left a void in all of us. As much as we did not meet too often, we still know that we are all cool and doing okay. The news of your death is still hard for us to accept. I remember the good days in Boys School Victoria when you and my brother Ndive came in infant-one. Both of your uniforms were clean and sparkling. Neat white shirt and blue shorts. That is the memory I have always had of you even when we meet as adults. We are all heart broken Sam. Although your life is cut short, I know you lived it the best way you wanted to and enjoyed every moment of it. God sent you down here on earth and He has called you back home. I pray for your soul and hope that you rest in His Kingdom in peace. Your departure is devastating to us.

However, I know you have met your Dad and your younger brother Victor in the land of our ancestor. I know you guys are griming and wondering why we are here in pain. Please as you are there with the Lord, intercede for your siblings and your Mom. Ask God to take care of all their needs. They will never be the same again without you. Stay blessed in the Lord as you will forever be missed.

                                          God’s Heavenly Garden

Sometimes God picks the flower that is still in full bloom;
Sometimes the rosebud’s chosen, we feel He’s picked too soon.
Sometimes the flower is fading with petals floating down,
But God knows the perfect time to gather flowers from the ground.
There is a heavenly garden in which God takes great pleasure
Because He’s placed within it the loved ones that we treasure.
He walks among the blossoms
giving them eternal rest,
And I know that it must please Him
Because He chose our very best.

A poem from Sam

May 1, 2013

I am free

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free,
I'm following paths God made for me
I took his hand I heard him call
Then turned, and bid farewell to all

I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to sing, to play
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found my peace... at close of play

And if my parting left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
Ah yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened... deep with sorrow
I wish you sunshine of tomorrow
My life's been full I've savoured much
Good friends, good times
A loved one's touch

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don't lengthen it now with grief
Lift up your hearts and share with me,
God wants me now... He set me free.
