To all you wonderful friends, family colleagues and acquaintances , thank you for your heartfelt tributes, for your love and for keeping the memories of The Sif alive .
His absolutely devastating and untimely loss came as an unbelievable shock leaving a deep open wound in our hearts.

We are fundraising to establish a Trust to preserve Rev Sam’s legacy and to support his Widow Patience, their 4 gorgeous children Unathi (6), Vuyiswa (5) and twins Vuyani and Vuyile who were only 5 weeks old on his passing.
Thank you so much for your generosity during this difficult time. We are blessed to be surrounded by a loving and compassionate community during this difficult time. Nothing can alleviate our pain but we take comfort in the love of God and knowing that there are people that loved him and care for his family. We’re forever grateful. We walked all those walkerthorns together as friends of the environment. You loved nature, you planted trees throughout the country. You left your mark baba. You loved people,. The news of your death came as a shock to me and up to this day lm speechless and the question is why and how? Through you and your sermons l learnt to love, respect and to be kind to others and the most important quality that you always emphasized one must have is Humility. Thank you for your wonderful service you shared with us and my heart is sobbing right now because l never got a chance to tell you how much l loved your sermons. l pray for mama and the entire family to heal and find comfort in the Lord during this difficult time. May your loving soul rest in peace and you will remain in our hearts forever until we meet again.

Reverend Sif. You were always there for us and even had a moment to chat with old timers despite your tight schedules. You were a great mentor to the youths. You inspired Junior church with your easy interaction with children, moreso those biblical questions you posed when you went to bless them. You left an indelible mark on the minds of youths getting into marriage. Words on gender equality in marriage during premarital counselling helped many to appreciate how they were made perfect in each others' weaknesses. You fought a good fight, and were a true beacon of light encouraging us all to grow deeper in faith. You shall be forever be missed.

Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one’s gone. Those we love can never be more that a thought apart. For as long there is a memory, they’ll live on in our hearts. Sir Sif i am going to miss you loads. You were one of those people let me express this in Shona,"Maiva musina zvinyamusi". A colleague, friend and brother. I have learnt a lot from you. You would always say, "Bamnini, the church is bigger than you think. Church chitofu. Haiperi ndiwe unopera." I remember 2010 when we took a holiday to Vic Falls. It was Victor Kunonga all the way. You loved your Jazz music.

You have answered the call to the church triumphant. May your soul rest in eternal peace and may light perpetual shine upon you

I still can't believe you are gone. I remember the first time I joined St Paul's and you introduced yourself as my sekuru. You were always there for Tinashe and I and you still kept in touch even when we were in Bulawayo. You are one of the kindest souls and though it breaks our hearts to lose you, heaven has gained a wonderful angel. God be with you till we meet again.

A couple of years back I joined St Paul's Anglican Parish Marlborough . I went to church a couple of months and found it difficult to fit in. We had spent almost two months and all we did was get in church and walk out at the end of the service. Those who have been in this situation understand. Just as I was about to say to my wife let's find a place that's a bit welcoming that's when Rev Sif came and said " I have been watching you for the past few weeks and reakised you come to church and leave". I was a bit surprised but responded and said yeah it is kind of difficult to fit in because since we came we have never been welcomed. Immidiately he said we have to fix that. Anyway to cut the long story short from that day we kept going to church, he came back and asked to visit us at home, he came and spent over 2 hours. At first I said to myself what are we going to talk about? I was about to. Find out that this was the most easy going Man Of God I had ever met. True to his word he ensured that we would stay at St Paul's and to this day we are there. A lot of other things and words of wisdom and encouragement I have had from Rev Sif.

SamSif as we used to call you, ow what a gentleman driven with passion. Throughout all our encounters be it in conference where we would be expected to talk or as observers you just were the same throughout, never changed a bit. I remember this one time in Pietermaritzburg(RSA) for the Lausanne conference you took us to the mall and said "I have to buy something for my girls and you have to help me" that's just who you were Sam a father who adored his children. Again in Kenya you just kept on reminding us that you needed to get something for the girls

My heart is broken, my soul is troubled but even in the midst of that I am grateful to God that our paths crossed; that I got to learn from you a lot, that you dedicated yourself to God's work something not easy to do yet you soldiered on. May you spirit rise in glory, may your presence in our lives motivate us even more to reach more live, to live a life that seeks to protect the integrity of the environment

In 1998, through the guidance of our advisers and youth chaplains, the Zimbabwe Anglican Youth Association (ZAYA) was formed. I happened to be one of the youth leaders who were privileged to be involved in the planning and launching of ZAYA. One of the prominent youth leaders involved in the planning was the President of Youths in the Diocese of Central Zimbabwe, Samuel Vusa Sifelani. In 2000, a national Anglican youth conference at St. Augustine's kwaTsambe marked a new reality for Anglican Youths in Zimbabwe. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Samuel Vusa Sifelani.
Personally, meeting with Vusa opened a new chapter because we became friends in the church but also in our private lives. A friendship that has endured and will continue to endure even as Vusa has graduated again. Never before have I enjoyed a friendship woven into multiple friendships

Vusa became my priest and spiritual mentor, my rector
Vusa took my wife and I through our renewal of vows
When we had 2 boys and they had 2 girls, Vusa became my in-law
Then we got a girl and on 19 August, he said, Tete Gunda has gotten herself 2 boys.
Wow! You have been a good friend. You have made me appreciate what to be an Image of God means! Humble even as you always looked like you could survive without humility. Go well servant of God!

Im laughing and im thinking the first time meeting him i was speaking English and I think after few hours he said: Hayi phela mina ngikhathele sisilungu, I laughed and said how could you let me speak English for so long and yet you speak Ndebele (Zulu). It was in 2016 at the Anglicans Ablaze. When ever he checks up on me I would say Sawubona Vusi, he will say, in SA you the only person calls by that name.

Fr Sam loved his girls. I hope they will find it in their hearts to heal. We are all shattered.

I only met you once at the Care for Creation Conference in Pietermaritzburg in 2018, but I became fond of you in an instant. One of the talks that you gave gave me the courage to have a clear sense of what makes one an environmental advocate. You had the most welcoming and supportive sense of humor. That's what made you unique. What a hands-on Moruti! The way you love your family most it all, your kids! They were the treasures of your heart.

May God bless and comfort Father Sam's family!

15 August 1977 - 29 September 2020

Fr Sam, we all knew him as Sam Sif - The Sif to others, he was a family man, very loving, he loved and care for the environment, Green Anglican, Green Church Movement, Friends of The Environment (FOTE) has been robbed with his passing, he was a visionary man. I was fortunate to meet him at the Anglicans Ablaze 2016 in Cape Town, from there we made good friendship, and month later invited us to FOTE 2016 in Zimbabwe, we went there and he welcomed us, we felt at home. His passing came at a time that we are hit by Covid-19 and that makes it difficult to even go to the funeral. He was great asset in our church and Green Movement.

Life History of Rev Samuel Vusimusi Ndabezinhle Sifelani

Profile for the late Fr VS Sifelani

The Reverend Fr Samuel Vusumuzi Ndabezinhle Sifelani was born in Gweru on the 15th of August 1977 to John and Esnath Sifelani.

Education

He attended St Mark's Lozane and St Michaels School for his primary education and Thornhill High School for his secondary education. After completing his secondary education he went to Kwekwe Polytechnic for a training in Motor Mechanics. After graduation he worked for Zim Alloys in Gweru and Mutangiri Buses in Masvingo.

Christian Upbringing

Samuel was brought up in Christianity from infancy. He was baptised and confirmed at St Matthews Mtapa Parish Church. He served at the church as an Altar Server, member of the Choir, member of the St Peters Guild and at one time he was the Anglican Diocese of Central Zimbabwe Youth President. Samuel also played a major role in the planning and launching of the Zimbabwe Anglican Youth Association (ZAYA).

Vocational Calling

In 2002 Samuel was selected to test his vocation at Bishop Gaul Theological College in Harare. After ordination training he was made Deacon in 2005 and ordained priest in 2006. He served in the Diocese of Central Zimbabwe at St Patrick's Mission and St Barnabas Parish respectively. In 2007 he went to the University of Zimbabwe to pursue a BA Hons in Religious Studies and later on a MA in Religious Studies.

Vocational Ministry

After serving for in the Diocese of Central Zimbabwe , he transferred to the Diocese of Harare where he served in many parishes as the Rector, including Chipadze, Malborough, Highlands and finally as honorary assistant priest in Greendale.

The Green Priest

Vusumuzi was an ecotheologian and passionate about caring for creation. He inagurated the Green Church Movement in Zimbabwe and was later appointed by the Bishop of Harare to be the Chaplain of the Environment Desk. His passion for creation care led to his appointment by the Archbishop to be responsible for the Church of the Province of Central Africa Environment Desk. Rev'd Sifelani was seconded by the Bishop of Harare to the ZCC as Ecumenical Liaiason Officer the post he held until his promotion to glory.

Vusa the Socialite

The Sif as he was commonly known by his contemporaries was a golfer and also a football player. Vusa also enjoyed music and travelling. He had good people management skills.

The family man

Samuel was married to Patience and they were blessed with four children; two daughters Unathi and Vuyiswa and twin sons Vuyile and Vuyani.

May his soul rest in power! Till we meet again Mhofu.

2 important lessons from Rev Sam Sifelani's life for me...loving people...loving your family...Mhofu you always flaunted your family as your greatest life achievement zvimwe izvo kana shungu...rest easy big guy...a serious shift happened inside of me in the last 2 days...it seems at times we focus on the not-so-important...creating memories loving people and being intimate with your family...cherishing the precious moments could be all that matter at the end of it all...your death just brought back the reality of our fragility and mortality...I will now remember counting my days...knowing fully well it's all gonna come to an end one of these sweet days...meanwhile...we keep dancing...cheers Sir Sif. RIP Mhofu

What an honour to have worked with you in the development of young people and in the FLEAT programme. You will forever be engrained in our hearts. Rest in eternal peace soldier of God knowing that your spirit lives on in the lives of those you transformed.

I cant even remember when i first met Rev Sifelani! Its like he had always been in my life. Thats how he was! Larger than life. Rev connected with the young and the old and left them all feeling inspired. I remember he was full time with the Church and i pleaded with him to move to Zim Council of Churches so we could work more together. He did and my work became much easier. He always teased me that i knew nothing about developing liturgy and he would gladly do it. He assisted the Zim gender and Faith Network to develop liturgy and he was passionate about what he did. He would get into a room and literally own it. The great giant is gone!!! His voice, his stature and his personality were huge! I never saw him angry! He would always try to find solutions and this also was his last act! He met his demise trying to find a solution! My prayers go to Patie his wife, his 2 daughters and 2 Sons!! Awwww how he was proud of his twins!! God gave me double Mai Mfundisiii he told me!. I am gutted i want to believe i am dreaming because Rev we still have to finish the season of creation message. Rev we still have to plan for the 16 days of activism against GBV and Rev you promised to have follow up sessions with the Byo FLEAT team. Action by Churches Together has lost a devouted Leader. But i have personally lost more. I had found an incredible workmate, a Brother and a Sister s keeper. Go well Mhofu! Go well The Sif. Till we meet again
