BIOGRAPHY OF SAMUEL BEDIAKO MINTAH WATERB

Samuel Bediako Mintah Waterberg, affectionately called, Paa Kwasi was born on Sunday, 4th February, 1979 in Accra, Ghana to the late Emmanuel Kwaku Wiafe Mintah ofMpraeso - Kwahu and Madam Susana Asabea Ntow of Asamankese.

Samuel was the fourth out of five children his father had with his mother. He began his early years in Accra and at the age of nine (9) he joined his mother in the Netherlands, Tilburg to be precise andcontinued his education.

He completed his basic education at a local elementary school in Tilburg. He obtained his Bachelor of Marketingdegree fromAvans Hogeschool Breda in 2003and proceeded to obtain his Masters in Strategic Managementfrom Tilburg University in 2005.

Samuel began his formal working career as a Relationship Manager with Rabobank, Netherlands where he worked for five (5) years and was responsible forcorporate client relations for medium-large companies and institutions.

It was around the period he worked with Rabobank that he met his beloved wife Judith. The two got married on the 25thof August, 2007 and have been blessed with three (3) amazing children.

His passion for work and desire to give back to his country of origin brought him back to Ghana in 2011. He worked as the General Manager of Diagnostic Centre, East Legon (a health care company).

As typical of him, Samuel’s devotion to accomplish all obligationswith excellence placed Diagnostic Centre as a market leader in the medical healthcare service delivery in Ghana. The Centre under his leadership received several awards for operational excellence, quality assurance and leadership in diagnostic imaging.

After his stint with the Diagnostic Centre, Samuel took up another challenge as the CEO of the People’s Pension Trust Ghana Limited in 2014, a position heserved until his demise.

As a social person, Samuel involved himself in many social activities. He was a Board Member of the Ghana Netherlands Chamber of Commerce and Culture and he also served in several capacities in bilateral activities between Ghana and the Netherlands.

He was also a pioneering member of the Young Kwahu Forum (YKF), a youth group made up of people fromKwahu descent with the aim of establishing networks and also givingback to the Kwahu community.

As a man of faith, Samuel was a devoted Christian. In his youth, Samuel was an active member of Covenant Word International Ministries (AOG) in Bread, Netherlands. He later moved to The Hague for work and joined the local Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC).

Samuel’s commitment and loyalty was noticed by the Church leadership and therefore called Samuel into the office of Eldership. During his stay in Ghana, He served as an Elder at the Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC) Kokomlemle, Accra.

He loved football and supported Ajax Amsterdam and cheered on any football club from Holland who participated in international tournaments. He also had a soft spot forManchester City FC from England.

In 2018, Samuel was the recipient of the West Africa Nobles Forum Award, a prestigious award scheme designed by a group of eminent West Africans for deserving business leadersin the field of corporate governance, integrity and exemplary leadership.

Together with his team, a couple of laurels were won at Peoples Pension Trust. They included “Pension Company of the Year-2018” at the Ghana Business Awards, “Best Corporate Trustee-Informal Sector-2018”,“Best Corporate Trustee-Education and Sensitization- 2018” and “Pensions Innovation Award-2019” from the Ghana Accountancy and Finance Awards.

At age 41, Samuel was bound for greater accomplishment on earth,but the Lord had a much greater calling in Heaven for him. He returned to Ghana from an international official assignment on the 15thof March, 2020 indisposed. He passed-on on Friday, 27th March, 2020 at the Ga East MunicipalHospital where he was receiving treatment.

Samuel’s sudden death is a shock and a big blow to the family, friends, work colleagues and loved ones.



He is survived by his wife Judith, his three children; HeroSamuel (10), Gwyneth(8) and Riches Emmanuel (6), his mother Madam Susana Ntow, Eleven Siblings, Uncles and Aunties, Cousins, Nephews and Nieces.

Samuel Bediako Waterberg was a great man of wisdom and knowledge; he wasvery humble, bold, kindhearted,dependable and a gentle soul.

With Paa Kwasi’s passing, we celebrate the legacy of a shining example and selfless sacrifice.

God loaned Samuel to us for 41 glorious years and we are proud of all his achievements andwill continue to be inspired by his greatlegacy.
