Tributes
Leave a tributeThis year, ICIS and WITS/WISE are in India. I remember when we went to Bangalore and took you around in an autorickshaw. You'd have loved it.
Thanks so much for being there for me!
Nishtha
Miss you a lot. You made academia a kinder and better place. Trying to do the same.
Nishtha
Yesterday, you were awarded this year's ISS President's Service Award, from INFORMS Information Systems Society.
To quote Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business Dean Maryam Alavi, "Her contributions to the field will live on."

We thought about you when we saw today's news that Georgia Tech's MBA program (Scheller) is ranked No. 24 in the Country by Bloomberg Businessweek.
You would be pleased to hear all the updates from Scheller colleagues ... you had paved the way. You are greatly missed ...
It has been five years but you are missed sorely. Rest in peace!
Nishtha
Missing you.. Can't believe its been 5 years...

Hope you resting in perfect peace. The ITM area and Scheller College of Business are growing fast and strong. Our full-time MBA program is just ranked 20th in the US and 23rd globally. Truly appreciate your many valuable contributions and service!
The recent US News has ranked Georgia Tech Scheller’s ITM Undergraduate Program No. 3 alone in their 2020 peer rankings. This is the first time we have ever made it into top 5, and we thought immediately about you. We can't achieve this without your leadership.
Just came back from INFORMS (2018). Missed you so dearly there and wanted to share that I was elected to ISS fellow. You would have been so proud! You were the pioneer and such a great role model for women like me. Thanked you and your legacy in my speech. Will always miss your friendship, mentorship and scholarship! -- Anandhi Bharadwaj
Today, at INFORMS CIST, Scheller Ph.D. alumni, Peng Huang, is one of the recipients of the 2018 ISS Sandra Ann Slaughter Early Career Award. Peng is a tenured Associated Professor at University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business, and Associate Department Chair in the Department of Decision, Operations, and Information Technologies.
This marks the fifth Scheller faculty and Ph.D. alumni who won this prestigious INFORM ISS award created in 2014 in honor of Sandy. Early winners are Profs. Eric Overby, Marius Florin Niculescu, Mingfeng Lin and Scheller PhD alumni Sam Ransbotham, who is a tenured Associate Professor at Boston College’s Carroll School of Management.
As Ajay said, you continue to inspire us to do Scheller pride in all dimensions you have shown us.
I hope you can sense the loss we all feel ever since you left us for your heavenly abode. We miss you very much -- your cheerful professionalism, your principled thoughtfulness, and unending desire to do the right thing. The world is a better place for you today. Thank you! May you rest in peace.
Ajay
I learned today about a great piece of news - I was promoted to Full Professor. I thought about whom i would like to share this with and thought immediately about you. Without your guidance and teachings, I would not have been able to get to where I am. I am very sad that you are not around to share my joy. Thank you, Sandy, for everything you have done.
Love,
Waifong
I cannot believe that it has been two years already. Time goes by but your memory stays with me forever. Thanks for all your time and patience with me.

Sandy was a wonderful person and I am forever grateful and indebted to her for her kindness and compassion. I often turned to her for advise and she always made time for me, despite having zero obligations to do so. I feel fortunate to have known her and she has shaped who I am as an academic.
Words can't express my sadness - I will miss you dearly Sandy. May you rest in peace.
My colleagues at Telecom Ecole de Management and myself will keep remembrance of her as a delightful person dear to our hearts.
When I joined the program was when I finally began to get to know Sandy. We spent countless hours collaborating over a project began with the military maybe a week before my first day of the program. In that time I got to discover a little bit of why I'd heard those good things for so many years. She was the busiest person I'd ever known, but she always had time for others. She was always trying to help. Always looking out for us. She once said that PhD students are kind of like one's kids and so faculty and advisors like to see them go out into the world and do well. How true that was with Sandy. She was delighted to see those she'd worked with and mentored do well.
I got an email this week from someone who'd only really spoken with her once and that maybe six months ago .. and she was so upset to learned what had happened. Imagine being able to make such an impression on someone over one coffee.
I regret that I never got to take her seminar. I regret that I won't be able to share the future stories of my successes and trials with her. I regret that I will never be able to continue the conversations we had going. I regret that I can't answer the last emails she left in my inbox. I regret that so many will miss out on getting to know her. But I am so grateful that I was one of the lucky ones who did.

So charming and mindful person
I met Sandra two weeks ago in Paris on Oct. 24th. I fetched her at her hotel and accompanied her to Telecom Ecole de Management in Paris suburbs for a research seminar. I had such a nice discussion with her on the train, and I remember her so well laughing when we mentioned some incredible small things that can happen by hazard in life ... Her talk at the seminar was so interesting and enthusiastic and all attendees were delighted meeting her.
My colleagues at Telecom Ecole de Management and myself will keep remembrance of her as a delightful person dear to our hearts.
