Sarah Beth Ellis Obituary

March 27, 2016

Sarah Beth Duncan was born January 22, 1950 in Kansas City Missouri, the third child, and second Daughter to James Ernest and Mildred Jean Duncan. Sarah inherited her Father's memory, and her Mother's humor, and it was an invaluable trait to which each whom she met instantly seen, and one of the sweetest souls one could ever known, giving her the nickname, from her beloved Cousin, Irene Vasconcellos, "Sweet Sarah".

Sarah grew up in Kansas City throughout her youth and teenage years, attending East High School, graduating in 1968, and afterwards attending Nursing School, and becoming an LPN, which was her calling in the category of jobs, as she loved to care for people, and was top of her league in whatever she set her mind to doing. She also was an incredible athelete, as she was considered for the Olympics as a teenager in High School, and a member of various Bowling Leagues in her twenties and early thirties.

On November 8, 1970, Sarah gave birth to her first of two children whom she considered "her boys", Christopher Martin Hahs. Life wasn't perfect for Sarah, however she had experiences, and memories she would often share, and stories of which may never be known. She was married four times, and in the early 1980s, her life would forever change, as she met William Franklin Ellis, whom many called "Bill", in Independence, as he was visiting a friend of his, and they became an item, and in 1983, Sarah came to Bill's home state of Georgia, and was adopted by his family as one of their own, and his nieces and nephews considered her to be their Aunt, and his Sisters and Brothers considered her a Sister, and his Mother and Father considered her a Daughter, and Bill's Mother, Myrtle Ellis vowed to Sarah's Mother "As long as I'm alive, I'll take care of Sarah as if she's one of my own.", to which she did. On Halloween 1984, after years of being told she would never be able to have children again, she discovered she was carrying twins, however one miscarried before the discovery, on March 22, 1985, Sarah gave birth to her second, and Bill's only Son, Grady Duncan Ellis, and throughout her years in Georgia, Sarah never practiced her nursing skills on a professional level as she had in Missouri, but saved her Father In Law, T.G. Ellis' life in 1987, to which he was forever indebted to her, however it was just her nature to care, and her life's work.

In the early 1990s, after working a few jobs outside of Nursing, Sarah returned to Techinical College, and became a Pharmacy Tech, and was employed at Tanner Medical Center from 1994 to 1999. In 2000, Sarah and Bill Ellis divorced after 14 years, and she returned to Kansas City, and watched after her parents, and returned to Nursing, and worked in many nursing homes in the Kansas City metro, before "retiring" in 2011. In 2013, Sarah's health had began to fail her, as she battled a disease known as Scleroderma, which she fought with all she had within her, and never lost her humor, and tried to stay positive, knowing the time left on earth would be short, and on March 20, 2015, Sarah Beth Ellis passed away in her sleep, leaving behind her boys, Christopher and Grady, a Sister, Rebecca Layher, Brother, Mike Duncan, three Grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, and was met in heaven by her Mother and Father, J.E. Duncan, Mildred Jean Duncan, her youngest Brother, Timmy Duncan, and members of the Ellis family that'd passed, Myrtle Ellis, T.G. Ellis, and her former Sister in Law, Annie Compton. In August, Bill passed away and was reunited with Sarah in heaven, and she left behind many friends, and many memories, and a legacy that can only be admired, and respected. She was her own woman, and I'm deeply honored to have had the honor to call her "Mom".
