Her Life

Ma Sarah Ilale Kofele nee Ekema

December 19, 2012

Ma Sarah Ilale Kofele was born on the 27th of October 1937 at Tiko, Cameroon. Her father, Mr Samuel Ikoli Ekema and mother, Ma Susana Eposi Mbimbi were devoted Christians so Ma Sarah was privileged to know our Lord and Savior at a very young age and that explains her love for God and her role in church group at her adult age.

Because her father was a respectful teacher at the Cameroon Baptist mission, moving from town to town, Ma Sarah was opportune to travel across the English speaking provinces of Cameroon where she received her education with distinction in commerce, accountancy and good practical knowledge in stenography/short-hand.   Following the transfer of her father back to Victoria, as was known at that time, Ma Sarah returned to her home town where she met her true love, Mr. Jediah Luma Kofele, an Executive Secretary of the Victoria Divisional Council and both were able to tie the knot and were blessed with seven children. As a wonderful woman with remarkable strength, she joined the workforce as a public servant at the Department of Public Works, Victoria where she had promotions and served till retirement as a confidential Secretary. Even after Mr. Kofele's untimely death, Ma Sarah provided the best for her children. She was a sweet and dedicated mother and grandmother.   Because of her passion in sewing, a talent she acquired from her own mother, Ma Sarah became known in clothes design as she was able to dress top women in the town of Victoria and neighboring towns as well. She became a well known dressmaker of the region.   Ma Sarah was steadfast in her religious life. She became a devoted leader in the Kakane Baptist Women's Association and served till her departure. She played a great role in various organizations within the community such as the Ngo Isu association and the Victoria Old Gals' Association. Ma Sarah continued her loving care to her grandchildren and even great grand children for the last thirty years. A great listener and an encourager even as a US citizen, she continued to conduct an exemplary life. She is survived by seven children, nineteen grand children and six great grand children, a brother in Italy, cousins, other relatives and friends to mourn and celebrate her good life.

We honor her memory as she rest in perfect peace.
