Remembering a brother who was a great support in good and bad times.
Speaking to David our younger and special brother he said his memories of Sean was a "fisherman and a swimmer "

I only met Sean Wheatley once when I was very young, about 9 or 10. He came to visit my father and mother, Terry and Ellen Wheatley when we lived in London. He was very gentle and softly spoken.
RIP.

Sincere condolences to all the family on the passing of Sean. A frequent visitor to Ireland, ever mindful and connected to his family here. He was a great raconteur, with a great sense of family. He spoke highly of his upbringing, his parents, his siblings and his own family whom he delighted in. A great sportsman all his life and a person who went to England and made a good life for himself there. May he rest in peace.

Sean was one of my younger brothers.

As a young man, having done a good leaving cert, which was all that was required at the time for a Cadetship in the army, but the competition in that year was hugh.He had all the qualities needed serious minded, athletic etc.

Like so many Irish people over the years he became an emigre not in the political but economic sense of the word.

He took a full part in the community in which he lived, played rugby, took part in musical societies and also became a magistrate.

He became an accountant, then a company secretary and started a successful company of his own.

He loved ireland, came over for every family event and stayed at my home, many many times, on the way to Athlone.
He also produced a family newsletter and helped to resolve a serious family dispute.
He was a patient listener, would never offend, was stoic, self reliant, strong willed in order to do the right thing in life.He was not given to be over critical of others,he was thoroughly family orientated, but at the same time gregarious.
He had great atentative affection for his younger handicapped brother, David which was sweet to behold.
He had a strong impulse to be useful, take part and care about things, and in Patrick Pearse's words "scatter not hoard".Of human frailties he had few.

I am his only extant older brother and I mourn his passing.

Sean was a great uncle and a great friend. There was not many like him. In fact he was on his own. I always remember him singing at my daughters christening and he lite up the room. It was a lovely thing to do because its something my dad would have done but he could not be present. The two of them were not short of confidence and were alike in many ways. A great conversationalist who touched everyone he knew. As a young lad growing up whenever you met him he was always interested and interesting. Will be very sadly missed by everyone he left behind but i know he is in good company upstairs. Sean RIP
