16-20 July, 2013 commencing with valedictory session at the National Assembly has been fixed for the burial of our Father, Mentor, Leader, Oga, Elder Brother, etc, Distinguished Senator Pius Akporokena Ewherido. We will keep you all informed of further arrangement.

Senator Akpor Pius Ewherido

Senator Akpor Pius Ewherido, was a member of the Delta state house of Assembly (DTHA) where he represented the Ughelli South local government area in the State house of Assembly. Born in Ughelli Delta State to the family of Pa Joseph Ewherido and Paulina Ewherido, he is the third child in a family of eight male children; he had his elementary primary education in St. Paul’s Catholic Primary School in Ughelli and Ekwerigbe Primary School in Ozoro, all in Delta State. He proceeded to Notre Dame College also in Ozoro and finished off in Urhobo College Effurun-Warri Delta State. He studied Philosophy at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) where he emerged the best graduating student in his class.

After his National Youths Service in the then Ogun State University in Ago Iwoye, he went into the business environment and became a successful businessman in Warri. At that same time, he enrolled at the University of Benin where he studied law and was later called to the Nigerian Bar Association. Pius Ewherido then cut his teeth into national political environment when he joined United Nigerian Congress Party (UNCP). After the transition was aborted he went back to full-time business until 1998 and subsequently joined the People's Democratic Party (PDP). He contested under that platform and won the Ughelli South constituency election in 1999 to represent that constituency in Delta State House of Assembly.

He was the Pioneer Deputy Speaker of the House in 1999 and was for over a year acted as the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly during which time he demonstrated very distinguished, vibrant and robust leadership. He served his constituency faithfully and diligently, deploying a number of projects spread all over the towns and villages in Ughelli South local government area. In appreciation of his contribution to his constituency, his party returned him as the candidate for Delta State House of Assembly in 2003. Until his death, he was the senator representing Delta Central Federal Senatorial District of Delta State at the Nigerian Senate. 

In Furtherance to acknowledgment of his contribution, the people from his paternal area honoured him with the chieftaincy title of Otemunoruemu of Ewu Kingdom, while his maternal hometown bestowed on him the title of Adjerese of Effurun-Otor Kingdom. Senator Ewherido was an ardent long tennis player and a soccer enthusiast. He was married to Doye Ewherido (nee Bozimo) and until his death, they were blessed with children.
