Dear Serge, It is a pity I wasn't able to meet with you before you left for the USA. You were gone before myself and Yves came back from the USA where we went one year earlier for the same program. We were hoping you enjoy your time as we did and had great plans for the nearest future. Unfortunately, those plans will never materialised; you will never use the experience you had, nor even share it with anyone for there is no Humphrey fellowship in heaven. What about the english you learned for few months before your program started, and the professional affiliation plans, and the networking?
My brother I understand from those who knew you that you touched lives wherever you went. That is the very essence of living. It is not how far bu how well

L'homme c'est comme ça que l'on s'appelait pour montrer que nous sommes ondoyant et divers. Tu viens de nous le démontrer une fois de plus. Dieu nous a fait ainsi et nul ne saura quand il partira de monde. Tu as joui du peu que tu as pu et dans la limite de ce que Dieu a décidé. With "Serge Engelbert EKANI " we had lot of things in common. We have named both "EKANI" we have done the same secondry school "Lycée d'Obala" we were at the the Yaoundé II University . we passed the same competitive exams at the National advanced school of P&T in Yaoundé in 1999.  We began worked at the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications in the Provincial delegation of the Littoral Division, then he was first appointed at the Cameroon's Suprême State audit office in 2006 and me in 2012. We called each other "MBOMBO". I have lost a friend of mine. It's a very sad situation.

Serge, tu resteras à jamais dans le cœur de tes frères. Tu as été un frère fidèle. Chaque fois que j'entre dans ce site je pleure en lisant les messages tellement ils sont émouvants.
Repose en paix mon frère, ton image restera à jamais graver. Nous attendons ta dépouille au Cameroun pour t’enterrer dignement

On behalf of the African Graduate Student Association (AGSA), Michigan State University, we would like to register our deepest and sincere sympathy to the entire Ekani Family for the loss of our beloved brother and colleague Serge Ekani. Serge was a very gentle presence amongst us and will be dearly missed! Those we hold closest to our hearts never truly leave us. They live on in the kindness they have shared and the love they brought into our lives.

May the faithfully departed soul of Serge rest in eternal Peace, Amen!

Very sad now are all his friends, precious family members and mates

Let us always have that hope and never be completely desperate

I will like also my express my deep sadness about Serge. We are all mourning at the Supreme State Audit Office of Cameroon with the sudden death of our colleague and brother.
I could remember how this Cheerful Guy jumped in to my office right away after I came back from the same program in June 2013 to express his keen interest to apply to this prestigious program.
I could remember how thrilled and enthusiastic he was when selected for the program. I could remember his first call to me when he landed for the first time in Montana for the pre-academic English language and in Michigan State for his training. 
It is very unfortunate that he could not come back alive with all skills, knowledge and network so far acquired.
May his Soul rest in peace!

J'ai rencontre Serge au C2BA en 2012. Il m'a tout de suite fait bonne impression par ses encouragements et sa vision de la vie. Vraiment. Un veritable modele. Que la famille soit puissamment fortifiee par le Seigneur.

I met Serge when he visited Missoula, Montana, and the University at the start of his Humphrey Fellowship. He loved his time here and enjoyed the beauty of our state. He was a pleasant man with a wonderful smile. My thoughts are with his family and friends who will miss him a great deal.

I had the chance to be with you in the same cohort of Humphrey Fellows at MSU. We had learnt to know each other. And indeed, we really had good memories after seven months of wonderful moments and experiences. You left, leaving a hole in our heart that will be difficult to staff. I'll never forget your smile and your kindness. Rest in peace brother!

It was a great pleasure to know you. Your quiet smile and your calm attitude was always so comforting. Am glad we all spent Thanksgiving and part of Black Friday with you as a family. My daughter says that you are in a better place now and I agree with her. We will miss you so much. I remember when we went shopping on Black Friday and we shopped for your wife and son. I will never forget how your face lights up when you speak of your family. I pray that God will grant them the comfort they deserve. We miss you and you will always be family to us. The Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Program is devastated with news of the death of one of our colleagues Serge Ekani of Cameroon. We are all sad and in shock, we pray for his family as they go through this moment of grief. RIP Serge. We all came here with so much hope and expectations, yours and that of your family have been dashed with your tragic passing RIP.

Some things are so hard to understand, my heart is heavy, fare thee well noble man, I appreciate the few days we knew each other. A life well lived...you will not be forgotten.
