The war graves commission recently added QR codes to the war grave cemeteries in Wales. This news was featured recently on the BBC Wales evening news and alongside the report a mention was given to Charles's grave which also has a QR code placed on it. Click Link To View

The novel use of QR code technology fixed to the headstone of Charles and Betty's grave captured the public's attention and led to numerous articles appearing in the local and national press,  a few radio and TV interviews followed. Charles would often share his wartime memories with his 3 sons Godfrey, Joseph and Noel. Here he is in 1989 at a Christmas family gathering. He shares the story of the sinking of the SS Haulerwijk, a Dutch merchant ship that Charles served on in 1940. The photo opposite is that of the SS Haulerwijk.

Joe's wife Karen challenged Charles to an arm wrestle when he was 90 years old. Charles always game for a bit of fun took up the challenge. The following video shows how it all panned out!

Charles was very influenced by the history of the Welsh Revival which took place in 1904. He read many books on the subject and would often refer to the great revival preachers of that time, notably Evan Roberts. During that period in Welsh history there was a song that became very popular and is still sung today in many churches. Huw Priday introduces and sings Here is Love vast as the Ocean

Charles had a very dry sense of humour and was a great story teller, he'd have you laughing in stitches one minute and you'd be close to tears the next. The story that he tells in the following video will have that same effect on you so get your hankies out!
