Her Life

As I have posted my wife and I have lost our little Shanny girl a few days ago. Shannon was truly an amazing little girl so full of life and love and such a giver. Given these qualities and after much thought we decided to let her be a donor.

For this decision we got word today that her heart is going to a 2 year old little girl, her lungs to a 6 year old, liver to 3 year old and her kidneys one each to 2 adults. Our little angel is answering the prayers of five families. As we were told today she is truly a miracle.

To be honest, for our own selfish reasons, we would gladly take her life back answering our own prayers and not answer the call for donors. Having said that it does not stop the pain nor the empty heart I have but it does give me some comfort knowing my little girl will truly live on in my heart as well as the lives of others. She was so special in life and even now in her death. She was our angel and I will miss her until my last breath.

Thank you to everyone for the kind words. Many of you have asked how she passed... Last Sunday she came down with flu like symptoms. She appeared to be getting better Tuesday as she was beginning to eat, however that evening her fever spiked to 103 she began vomiting again and my husband took her to the hospital. They gave her fluids, and something to bring down the fever. She appeared to be doing much better and could be released, or kept for observation. We decided to keep her just to be safe. I told her "Shannon, Mommy is going to take the boys home. I love you and will see you in the morning." She replied, "I love you Mommy okay." Jim stayed behind and forty minutes later she had some type of seizure and slipped into a coma. Kaiser did not know what to do and called Loma Linda who then told them to prepare for transport. Three days later, despite our attempts to reduce swelling in her brain and kill the bacteria quickly, Shannon never recovered. We are empty without her.
