We will miss you. Death is inevitable. But,the way,covid19 has snatched you,that is hard to forget.
I have always felt warm and loved around you.
You always had a good word for everyone.
You always gave a very patient,affectionate and loving vibe ..

I knew Dr. Shashi Prakash through my friend Devina Prakash, her daughter. I first met her about twenty years ago in Long Island, NY. Over the years I came to know her and appreciate her cooking. I learnt a lot more about her at the memorial service from the testimonials of her colleagues, students, and relatives. People reminisced about her approachability, compassion, commitment to work, and her superb culinary skills.

However, I feel people left out one of her greatest achievements: her children. They are two of the nicest people I know. They are such kind, genuine people who are a pleasure to be around. Dr. Prakash managed an illustrious career while simultaneously instilling stellar qualities in her children. That was no mean feat. Dr. Shashi Prakash was an incredible woman whom I greatly admired. She will be truly missed.

I met Auntie for the first time in the summer of 1973 on my first trip to Pondicherry and then got to really know and admire her once I joined JIPMER, became a campus kid and became lifelong friends with Devina. Their home was always different from ours or from any of my other friend's homes. A sense of peace and calmness always pervaded the atmosphere and it was only later in life that I realized it was all due to Auntie's home management skills. I would always find Auntie sitting in the living room, reading a book! She would welcome us with her gracious smile and feed us delicious meals & snacks. I am still amazed as to how and when she managed to do everything so effortlessly. I left JIPMER before I had her as a teacher but I am sure she excelled in her professional life as well.
On my trip to Delhi in early 2019, I flew with Devina and spent a couple of days in Vasant Vihar at their home. Auntie was still the perfect hostess making sure that I had everything I needed. I will always remember & cherish that last meeting with her.
Devina & Sanjay embody the best of their parents and I am glad that they are a part of my life. My sincere condolences to the entire family. May God give you the strength to bear this terrible loss. Remember you are not alone. Auntie & Uncle are watching over you now and forever.
I will miss you Auntie. May you rest in peace in Heaven with Uncle.

As children, growing up in JIPMER Pondicherry, Devina and I were inseparable. As a consequence, her home became my second home especially because of Auntie's hospitality and her delicious food. It was so many years back, and all I remember is that they were carefree and happy days.
As I grew older, I realized that Auntie was not just Devina's mom but also an amazing physician. She astutely diagnosed me with beta thalassemia minor, thus saving me from a life time of unnecessary iron consumption.
The years went by, many of us eventually left Pondicherry, life happened. I met Auntie on and off over the years when she visited us during her trips, and it was always wonderful.
But my most cherished memory was the most recent one.
Last year in early 2020, Subhu and I visited Devina and Auntie in Delhi. I had not met her for quite a few years before that. The joy and happiness that we felt when she saw us was so palpable that it made us feel like the most important people in the world. It was special. After that she meticulously planned every single meal and snack for the next few days, each one delectable, and which no five star place could have matched. And even though she did not like going out much, she accompanied us one day during a Delhi sightseeing trip and we had a lovely time. I will never forget those precious days we spent together.
Auntie you will always be in our hearts, love you and miss you.

I have very sweet memories of hers . She was very beautiful soul and very elegant. Remember the old good days of our jipmer neighborhood .

I do not think you will be able to travel now but is your brother there in Delhi. Dear Devina & Sanjay just now Prayer meeting in pious memory of your Putative Mother --Prof.Mrs.Sashi Prakashji is going on.Sorry, I failed to connect to ZOOM.A boy who helps me to deal with nitty gritty of these operations didn't turnout due to Covid lockdown.With her Picture in front of us another -- "which is in our memory in virtual video style but more real&meaningful"...we are silently and surely with you and other spiritually seeking your parents sacred memory.This is a cruel and kind world --- Old order changes yielding place to New.History welcomes the "fleeting present"....  receding to archival slot...a moment ....of "Higgins Bosons"...when fecosecond shakes hand with a nonpercievable internal "Present".....Amen,Shanti....shanti...shanti.... uncle and aunty majumder.

dr.n.k.majumder -- ex of Jipmer,Pondy and still from Pondy where I settled post retirement since'93.We are extremely sad and shattered to hear from Prof.Geetanjali to the news of passing away of my very respected senior Prof.Sashi Prakash in Delhi a few days back.She was a lady of kind brilliance with a scholastic mind like your putative father late Prof.Satya Prakashji. I am in forever debt of silent inspirational backing and guidance I received from him in profession and personal life.We share your weeping grief of permanent parenteral loss in her passing away. Mrs.Anila -- my wife and all of Majumders - ex of Jipmer -- send our condolence to you and your brother .RIP to her soul...n.k.m

I have been her student at JIPMER as a postgraduate in Pathology. What struck me the first time I met her was that she was a prim and proper lady with a stern face. But once you got talking to her it was totally different. 
I owe my knowledge of Hematology to her organised way of explaining to a postgraduate and also eliciting answers from us. Many a time she would be hands on in the lab explaining Coagulation tests for a beginner in Hematology. 

She also had a sense of humor and I clearly remember one instance when I dozed off in the lab post lunch. The Pondicherry summer heat can be exhausting. She walked into the lab and saw me fast asleep. She just tapped me on the head and when I woke up shocked to see her, she calmly said," Suresh, had one too much last night.

Thank you for being a guiding light in my career.

We know Dr. Shashi Prakash Ji as Dear Bua Ji of our son in law, Maanas Saran & our daughter Arushi. Every time we visited Lucknow, Rajeev Bhai Saab & Seema Bhabhi used to tell about her a lot.
Now going through her life journey, we really feel loosing such an illustrious person.
We pay our tribute to great personality and excellent human being. May her soul rest in peace.

I met Aunty and Uncle briefly during a visit to Delhi with Devina. Even though it was a short visit, I have this overwhelming memory of Aunty's kindness, grace and sense of humour. Chandru remembers her with a great deal of fondness and affection, having worked as her houseman in the department of pathology at JIPMER. He recounts his favourite memory of her kindness- he was studying late into the night for his PGI entrance exam and one day, fell asleep over his microscope. He awoke to Aunty's gentle touch on his shoulder and a smiling suggestion that he should take the rest of the day off and catch up on his sleep! Both Chandru and I would like to send you our deepest sympathy on your loss Devina. Our condolences to all her family to whom she clearly meant the world. Love xx Sadhana

When loved ones pass away, they take a part of us with them. For me, that part was when I became an adult in my IIT days. Mamiji and Mamaji were my local guardians, I would bike over to Vasant Vihar and enjoy the feeling of home. It renewed my spirits each time I would visit and enjoy the good food, and parental advice. -- Paulastya (Paul) G

Beautiful services! The singing was soul stirring and the family love was overwhelming.
Remembered my visits to your house and the wonderful food she cooked( especially the chilas.. I have tried to make them but they were never like hers! I also remembered her visit to Buffalo, and her praise for the ‘chole’ I had cooked!

Auntie,
I was a teenager growing up in Pondicherry when you were faculty at Jipmer, and most importantly, my sister’s best friend’s mom! I vividly recall how you embodied intelligence, grace, style, dignity and femininity like few women do. Your soft spoken and genteel nature belied the strong professionalism you must have had to display as a doctor in a male dominated world. You were one of a kind. We will miss you, but know that your light shines bright. Rest In Peace, Auntie.

Dr. Shashi Prakash née Saran was born to Rameshwar and Phoolwati Saran on January 16, 1936 in Lucknow, India. She enjoyed an idyllic childhood surrounded by her 3 sisters and 3 brothers, and often recounted stories of their pet peacock, the smell of khus mats in the air during summertime, and eating fresh mangoes.

Dr. Shashi Prakash, a trailblazer, was among the first few women in India to attend and graduate from King George's Medical College in Lucknow. She married Dr. Satya Parkash on January 26th, 1958 and started her career as a gynecologist in Snowden Hospital, Shimla. It was here that she welcomed her children: Devina in 1959 and Sanjay in 1960. The family moved to Pondicherry in 1968 where she completed her residency and stayed on as a pathologist at JIPMER. In addition to being an active member of the faculty, she was largely instrumental in modernizing the institution's blood bank. The family then moved to New Delhi in 1985 where she was a professor of pathology at Maulana Azad Medical College until she retired in 1993.

In addition to her successful career, she always kept a welcoming and open home, creating fond memories for all who visited her. Aside from memories of the best chai you could have and a table full of the tastiest food in the world, all her friends and family remember her soothing and reassuring voice when you went to her for advice, her delicate saris, and her warm, loving smile.

Dr. Prakash was universally beloved by her students, friends, colleagues, and family alike.  She is mourned by her daughter, son, daughter-in-law, and two granddaughters. She is missed every minute of every day, may her soul rest in peace and attain moksha.
