Born: November 14, 1957 in Norman, Oklahoma. Sheila joins her parents in heaven, Connie and Jean Wampler, and her precious dog, Remington. Sheila walked from this life to her heavenly life on June 2, 2022
Sheila was a passionate musically talented kid who loved all sports. She, Loved her Boomer Sooner football, Hunting, fishing, and adventuring near and far.  Sheila served the Air Force military, Fed Ex, and numerous other jobs. She studied at Oscar Rose Jr. College.  Shortly after, she met the love of her life, Rayna Whitener.

Together they built very successful businesses together:  “Rynn’s Lawncare and Landscaping”  for 25 years in Oklahoma City. Even though they sold Rynn's landscaping over 11 years ago, they are still talked about. After being retired they decided in 2016 to create Gettin’ Décor and More”  a unique antique shop with a flower nursery attached In Longtown, Oklahoma on the beautiful Lake Eufaula. Together, Sheila and Rayna took on projects that would stagger legions of armies. On top of their business journeys, they enjoyed making a house a home. From building their dream lake home on Lake Eufaula to moving their lives to Sparta, North Carolina this last year. Everyone who walked into Rayna & Sheilas place, no matter if it was Okc, Lake Eufaula, or Sparta, felt hugged, catered to, and just simply at home. They deeply enjoyed creating with their hands, seeing their dreams come to life, and hosting all the people they love even newly met friends. The passion for giving old things new purposes for these two was unreal. Sheila was an excellent carpenter after learning from the best Carpenter around "her father Connie" and we all know this quality went a long way with Raynas never ending creativity for crafting anything and all things.

They travelled near and far from Hawaii, Montana, Mexico, Missouri, and really anywhere family and friends were while running businesses, keeping great employees always on their toes, and staying busy. They celebrated their joining as one in Kauai.

Few people could stroll into a room, and literally “light it up” and bring “peace everlasting”  Such was the presence of Sheila Wampler. If Sheila showed up “all was well”.

Sheila Leaves behind her wife, Rayna Whitener, her niece Katie Whitener, her nephew Chance Whitener and his wife Lindsey Whitener and their two kids. Although Sheila and Rynn never had children of their own, Katie and Chance new they were deeply blessed to have such involved aunties that treated them and impacted them as they were their own. She also leaves behind her cousins Debbie Anderson and her husband Larry, her cousins Amanda and Will Herrmann and their 4 children, her cousin Melissa Anderson and her son and along with cousin Terry Glenn and her brother Mike and many countless Friends near and far.

We remember Sheila for her undaunted dedication to doing what was right, her contagious spirit, and her kind eyes and heart.  A very bright light has dimmed in our lives.  However, we will all go to our graves still embracing many of the shared moments we gathered with Sheila and Rayna in our lives. In all things, Sheila found the undeniable YES in her soul.  Where Sheila planted her feet on the ground, she gave it her soul.

We kept our trunks rolled up when we hung out with Sheila and Rynn.  We worked hard and we played hard.  Sheila always followed her North Star, which included her Faith, Family, Friends, and Fellow Travelers.  It always seemed that Sheila and Rynn would “walk in” when others were “walking out”.  There was no mountain they refused to climb and no deed they would leave undone.  Nothing this duo did was a job.  It was all a journey!  Together they taught us all “bootstrap 101”.  Quitting was never an option.

To live a life in full integrity is to live to the whole degree for which we have been designed.  Sheila lived a life full of absolute integrity.

Sheila is the only person who could manage the awesome creative talent of Rayna.  Always with Sheila it was “GO!  YOU’VE GOT THE GREEN LIGHT!  Never “Whoa!” For Sheila it was Execute!  Don’t stop til’ you’re finished!  Improvise as best you can…and, above all, keep going.  Somehow Sheila understood that to capture the heart of a person, you captured the person.  We are all captives of Sheila’s heart.

It is said, The greatest risk we shall ever take is NOT TAKING ONE.  Sheila and Rayna both lived a life of “taking risks”.  Sheila loved making deals where everyone ended up happy.
Sheila loved Mother Earth and she loved her heavenly Father. The sounds of nature has always been her first language, and in her heart she adored the “Force” that created all of Nature. Sheila always left the place where she visited, much more beautiful than when she found it. Sheila and Rynn honored the truth that play was the way to get limbered up for work, and together they provided us all with days and days of play in the sunshine.

As Helen Keller said, “What we have enjoyed we can never lose; all that we deeply love becomes a part of us”. Sheila has moved on to her next great adventure, but she will always live in our hearts here on Earth. To those of us left behind, Sheila might say these words:

“ WHEN TOMORROW STARTS WITHOUT ME “

 Author: David M Romano

When tomorrow starts without me

And I’m not here to see

If the sun should rise and find your eyes

All filled with tears for me

I wish you wouldn’t cry

The Way you did today

While thinking of the many things

We did not get to say

I know how much you love me

As much as I love you

Each time that you think of me

I know you will miss me too
I promise no tomorrow

For today will always last

And Since each day’s the exact same way

There is no longing for the past

So When Tomorrow starts without me

Do not think we’re apart

For every time you think of me

Remember I’m right here in your heart

When I bought my house on Dorchester, my mom informed me that Connie & Jean Wampler who lived down the street, were related to us. My grandmother and Jean Wampler were first cousins. Jean passed not long after I moved here so Mr. Connie, as I called him, was my neighbor for the past 24 years. I met Sheila and Rynn when they came here to clean out his house and sell it. Even though I had known "of" Sheila my entire growing up in the neighborhood and going to John Adams Elementary, although she was 2 years ahead of me. When she and Rynn were here getting that house ready, I went down there and introduced myself. She gave me an estate sale preview and stated that "family" doesn't have to pay! Well, in our first meeting that was when I saw who Sheila Wampler was! I met Rynn but we didn't really have much of a chance to visit. Sheila did tell me that they had been together for over 23 years and they were ready to start their retirement in NC. During the time they were here in Norman, I had the chance to take some photos of Jean and Roberta taken at my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary and showed them to Sheila. She was thrilled to see the photos of her mom & aunt that she had never seen. She took pics of the pics with her iPhone. When my other distant cousin Debbie, whom I also attended John Adams with, posted about Sheila's passing on Facebook, I SO SAD for a 3X removed cousin I had only just met! Sheila had that kind of impact from the start. I only wish I had gone down to Mr. Connie's house more when they were here, but I will always think of her and how gracious she was on first meeting. The last day I left there, Sheila gave me a big cousin hug and I just admired her from day one. Peace be with you Rynn. I am so sad for your great loss. <3

I don’t know that it is possible to express the love that I have for both of these girls. I will never forget when I met Sheila, Rayna and I were putting together a riding lawnmower to start Rynn;s Lawncare back up after a brief move that took Rayna to Denver. Sheila jumped right in to help us. Her first job with us was mowing Cardinal Paper, a huge field! It was scalping season so I road the new riding mower while Sheila ran behind me and would empty the bags when full. She was a mess after we were done and I’m sure she wondered what the hell she had gotten herself into. The adventure began then. Rynn’s Lawncare grew way beyond what I would have ever imagined. I will never forget how Sheila and I would create grease boards for Rayna to track every bit of what was going on. I worked side by side with her on many occasions and we always had a great time. The work ethic was incredible. Even though I had a career I was always willing to jump in anytime they needed help. It was a stress relief from my corporate America jobs.

When I bought my first SeaDoo I took them to Lake Overholser and let them ride it. They didn’t know the water could be so fun. Nancy and I had a home on the Lake Eufaula and would have them come play with us. After a couple of trips and seeing what it was like to actually relax and have fun, they bought a cabin. We had more fun than imaginable. Laughed till our guts and faces hurt. The many adventures. They decided one day to get a Kettle Korn trailer so they could go to events and sale their favorite popcorn. Yes, once again another adventure for us all. They added Pork Rinds and to this day, I can’t eat them! I feel so incredibly honored to have known and to have Sheila such a huge part of my life. They are both my family. We had our ups and downs, but one thing that was always there and could not be taken away was the love and deep affection the 3 of us have for each other. It’s like Peggy said, you just pick up where you left off.

She had her hands full with mine and Rayna’s antics and all of the crazy things we did and came up with. I promise to be there for Rayna forever, however she needs me and for whatever craziness we can conjure up.

Sheila your angel wings have been earned well by you. The adventure ends on earth but I know the adventure will continue as you guide us all from up above. You will be forever in my heart and soul! I love you!

I don’t even know where to begin. Rayna and I were always playing together when the Whiteners would get together, and as we grew older we lost touch with one another. We got together at a restaurant in Oklahoma City, I can’t even remember the year but it was several years ago. I saw Rynna and we hugged as if it had only be a day. She introduced me to her “better half” sorry Rynn her name was Sheila Wampler and from that day forward I have loved Sheila unconditionally. After I went through a very difficult divorce I knew who to call, Sheila & Rynn said get to Eufala, Ok. And they’d take care of me. They went beyond caring but loving me so very deeply. That is what I saw in Sheila, she was an angel here on earth, she listened, she prayed, she would be silent if I couldn’t talk. But Sheila took me under her wing and covered me with such kindness, love, shelter as any human being could ever do. II stayed with them several weeks and I’d come back to Missouri but I’d get to missing my 2 gals, so back to Sheila & Raynas I’d go. I went to see them in Sparta North Carolina & it was magical, such a beautiful place that Sheila & Rynn had fell in love with. The 3 of us were always there when it was needed, I wasn’t with Sheila the last couple of years because of Covid. Her daddy Connie was I’ll and we couldn’t risk me traveling to see him, but ever so often I’d get a phone call and Sheila would say, I just needed to hear Peggy’s voice. I miss you and love you dearly, after dad gets better we will get together. She lost her wonderful daddy and it took a toll on her. But after a while her and Rayna ended up back in Sparta, NC. I was in Florida with all my kids, grandkids, daughter-in-laws when I got the phone call on June 2nd, Sheila has passed away and is in heaven with her momma and her daddy. I cried for my loss of the best cousin Rynn could have brought into my life. I love you Sheila Gaye Wampler and I’ll see you in heaven again some day.

Sheila Good as Gold!

June 22, 2022
I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to stop saying Rayna and Sheila, as one united body. They are an inspiration to all that know them. Sheila has been in my life for over 30 years. She came into the Whitener family and gave us all a breath of fresh air for so many reasons. I was so blessed to just admire and soak in all the love she poured out, especially to Katie and Chance. The kind of love that is seldom seen or experienced. She never asked anything in return. She had a giving heart, a gentle and ole soul and peaceful existence, She was wise beyond her years and naturally intelligent and could see solutions no one else could possibly see or much less carry out. She was a doer. She stood behind her words and expected everyone to follow suit. I feel she was the glue that held our family dynamics in place. She carried our burdens when we could not even function but less exist.

I can easily say the relationship Rayna and Sheila created and lived by is one of the only heathy relationship I’ll ever know. Not only did they love each other deeply, they admired one another, stood by each other, laughed with and at each other and liked each other.  And liking someone is sometimes stronger than love. They were best friends cohorts, partners in crime, and loved surprising everyone. You see they gained their deepest joy by making others feel important, seen, heard and loved.  They were best friends. They held each other up, made each other accountable to the vows they made.
Sheila was a mentor to many. She had this calmness that stills the never ending anxiousness felt by so many of us. She had a way of sensing someone’s inner worries, troubles and fears. God gave her the gift of discernment. She followed her spirit to guide all she knew and even strangers to a place of peace and inner awareness. Sheila was stern when needed and taught me to forgive others and myself. I’ll surely miss her hand of soft guidance and the inner light that navigated me in the right direction when I was so lost and I had no one else to rely upon, as only she could give. I love you Sheila, forever and always!
