I really liked Shirley. I remember her with fondness , especially that smile!

I am sad to learn of Shirley's passing. She truly lit up a room. She was beautiful in spirit and appearance. Her easy smile and kind words were always ready for everyone. We will all miss her. My best to you, Bob, and your family and friends.

I can't remember ever seeing Shirley without a smile. Her warmth, friendliness and caring are traits that I shall recall whenever I think of Shirley. I only had the pleasure of knowing her for the past ten years, and she will leave an emptiness in my heart forever. She was such a lovely lady. I will miss her at all ACA functions. To her family, I am so sorry for your loss.

My Aunt Shirley

My aunt Shirley was remarkable. I have never known a woman more positive, loving and encouraging. It could be overwhelming; I once got a haircut at a salon where she worked for years, and she proceeded to tell me it was absolutely the finest haircut she had ever seen in her life. The descriptions of Lisa’s wedding, Diane’s achievements, and Denny’s scientific greatness will forever be remembered. Don’t even get started on grandchildren… But what was incredible was all that genuine enthusiasm was on my (and the Loomises in total) side too. She (and Uncle Bob) was the first to bring a teddy bear to the hospital when my son was born. She cheered us on at Christmas, would stop and say ‘hi’ to my daughter Claire when she was in Ann Arbor. She knew and asked about everybody; even an old friend from high school once. Aunt Shirley said “You are wonderful” and “I am so proud of you” more times than anyone I have ever known. Sometimes I thought, “Aunt Shirley, I’m sixty. I’m not that cute any more, and I’m not going much farther with life. Really.”
She would hear none of it. When the world was very dark and the true way wholly lost she was a beacon of light. We miss her dearly.
