My birthday picnic is just around the corner. It was always so much fun to celebrate with you. Loved your garbanzo bean salad and your beautiful place settings. I have so much I wish I could talk to you about. Love and miss you.

Hi Mom
You'll get a kick out of this - today is I-Day at the Academy for the class of 2027. So as you can imagine downtown Annapolis has been busy these past few days with future mids with their parents. And it's hot and humid so should be a fun summer for these young kids. Anyway... miss you Mom. Love, Will

Hi Mom - hard to believe it has already been a year since you left us. We miss you. I miss hearing your voice on the other end of the phone and sharing our days.  Summer is here in Annapolis - and tomorrow is I-Day at the Academy. The class of 2026. My 40th is this year, which means my I-Day was 44 years ago.  I recently shared the story of how I was slated to attend NAPS and how you wrote Admiral Holloway (Dear Jim.....). Thank yo for that! Love you, Will

Remembering Shirley’s intellectual curiosity and all the fun we had digging up artifacts in Turkey. I have the partial paw of a lion or something like that which she found in Termessos!

I can't believe it has been almost a year already since you've been gone.  I've thought about you every day.  I have missed picking up the phone and having our weekly visit hashing over all the world's problems.  Telling you all my problems and you always saying I make wonderful decisions for myself and I should pat myself on the back because I'm doing a awesome job. Loved and missed dearly.

Always stylish, intellectually aware and ready for adventure. Many fond memories of visiting in Turkey, unearthing archaeological finds, picnics in the alps in Switzerland and in 2016 when i visited Kate and Shirley in Seattle- just as alert and interested in things as ever. She will be missed,

My twin sister, June, and I grew up idolizing our cousin, Shirley. First of all she was older than we were, and so we naturally looked up to her, but second, we thought she was really neat, and just as importantly, she did neat things...like perform at Cypress Gardens and marry the handsome aviator, Howard Thayer, to name a couple. Over the years, I didn't keep up with her as much as I should have, due mostly to the fact that she was on the west coast, and we on the east. That said, in 2018 when several of us cousins met in Seattle for a couple of days, it was an extraordinary treat to see Shirley again. We had all slowed down a bit, but she was her old self, neat as ever and wearing amazing earrings that only Shirley could get away with. I just wish, that over the years, there had been more opportunities to spend time together. It is with great sadness that I say goodbye to her.

I know Shirley would’ve loved my chickens because she was always interested in peering around the veil to see what interesting things were left undiscovered.

My favorite memory with Shirley was our trip to Noosa Australia.  The two of us found a bead store and we visited it every day collecting bead after bead.  There were so many beautiful beads that we couldn't choose so; we bought lots!  It was like a gold mine for the two of us.  We spent the rest of her visit happily making jewelry until the wee hours of the night.

Her creativity inspired me.  She was a beautiful women, mother, grandmother both inside and out.  She will me missed.

Sara xoxo
