His Life

Each person that came in contact with Sidney said he was a wonderful, kind, amazing man.  He was a fun person.  He loved to joke and play dominos.  He was always willing to help others with anything that they needed.  He would put the needs of his family and friends before his own. 

He is survived by his daughters Sharice and LaTonya.  His grandchild Ebone. His step children Urial, Shilo, DeAngelo and Sky  His adopted son Cinque. His sisters Willie Fosselman of Antioch and Anna Liza Lee of Woodville, Mississippi.  His brothers James Jr. of Antioch, William Porter of Australia and Larduffree Longs of New Orleans.  A host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  Preceding him from this life was his father and stepmother James and Julia Porter, sister Martha Chambliss, daughter Seana Denise, son Eric Shawn and wife Joyce Jacqueline.

Sidney Porter was born to Relia and James Porter on April 26th 1940 in Woodville, Mississippi.  He was the first born son.  His brother William also came from this union.  He had a total of  three brothers William, James Jr, Larduffree and  two sisters Dora Lee and Willie.


Sidney and his family moved to San Francisco, CA in 1953.  In 1966 he met and married the love of his life Joyce who preceded him in death.  Of that union came two daughters Seana Denise who died shortly after birth and Sharice D'Ann and one son Eric Shawn who also preceded him in death.


He drove the buses for Muni in San Francisco. 

Sidney moved his family to San Jose, CA in 1977 where he lived until his death.  He commuted from San Jose to San Francisco so that his family could have a better life.

His wife Joyce, became ill in 1981 due to a stroke so he quit his job with Muni to be her primary caretaker.  He cared for her until her death in 1999. 

His son Eric Shawn became ill in 1989 due to renal kidney failure and Sidney made sure he was cared for as well.  Eric succumbed to his illness in 1996.


In 1990 Latonya Shalee was born.  She was treated like a princess by her Daddy.

In 1994 Eric Shawn had a little girl named Ebone.  Sidney was a proud grandpa.  He helped to raise her up until his last day.
