We received with great shock and sadness, the passing of Sir Remi Omotosho,DFIoD, a distinguished Fellow of the Institute of Directors and a highly respected member of the Committee of Past Presidents and Elders of the Institute.
An eminent Nigerian, Sir Omotosho had served in various capacities that brought real value to our Institute and the
nation at large. He diligently applied his time, talent and treasures ( as dictated by the biblical injunction ) to the advancement of the overarching purpose of the professional organisation and the common good.
We join our President in mourning the loss of such a distinguished and active member of the IoD . We pray to God Almighty to grant eternal rest to his noble soul and comfort his wife, children and the entire household. Amen.

The news of the passing of Sir Oluremi Omotoso came to me and my wife as a rude shock! We have many relationships and have served on committees of the IOD the latest of which is the IOD House and Infrastructure which he chaired. A great leader of men in business, philanthropy and religious areas of endeavour who achieved prominence in all and yet remained humble. We had a virtual meeting a few weeks before and scheduled another to which he uncharacteristically did not show up. After waiting for about half hour meeting was called off. Little did we know he was ill. He served God, country and his fellow men to the very best of his ability. His amiable wife remains in our thoughts and prayers. Heartfelt condolences to family, friends and fellow members of IOD . May he Rest in Peace.

The news of the passing on to eternity of Sir Remi Omotosho came to me as a rude shock. The President Chief Chris Okunowo called me to break the sad news. Sir Remi was the Chairman of the IOD House and Building Committee and I was his Vice Chairman. He was a man of impeccable integrity and excellent leadership qualities. He was very diligent and highly disciplined.

He was an exceptional and distinguished Nigerian. He held several high profile positions and every where he served he left it more transformed than he met it. He was a friend, a mentor and a role model.

He was a devoted man of God and a family man. We are going to miss him.

I pray that God will grant his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and may his soul rest in peace.

Adieu

TRIBUTE TO A MIGHTY MAN OF VALOUR, INDEFATIGABLE AND
A mAN OF INTEGRITY.

How are the mighty fallen!
I was shocked to learn of the demise of Dr. Remi Omotoso because we met at a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Ibadan Alumni Association not too long ago. He was hale and hearty and his usual joyous self.

I learnt about him for the first time through a letter he sent to me in 1988 while I was the Executive Secretary of Lagos State Schools Management Board as secretary of the University of Ibadan Alumni Association of which our most distinguished Dr Omolayole was President. I was invited as an alumna of the university to participate in the 1988 Alumni week to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the great institution. The high standard of English language and style of writing of the letter and the subtle way he indicated that I ought to have been participating as an active member of an institution that groomed to be what I was at that time sent a message of guilt to me and from then I have been playing my little role as one who is grateful to her alma mater. The tone of the letter also showed that the association consisted of serious minded people who were focused and had a well thought out plan for the improvement of the university and I responded positively to the invitation. After his tenure as secretary, it had not been easy for secretaries after him to fit into his shoes.

In the above-mentioned letter, I was informed of a planned ‘home—coming’ visit of the association to the university. Suffice it to say that that visit in which I participated was executed so well and was successful due to Sir Omotoso’s competence and devotion to a cause in which he believed. He sacrificed time, personal attention to details, finance and all to the improvement achieved at the university thereafter. My respect for him as a distinguished alumnus of the UI was registered at the time..

I later met his wife, now pastor Mrs Omotoso at the Redeemed Christian Church of God. This meeting took me to his hometown for his mother’s funeral rites. He was the talk of the small town as a worthy son who took care of not only his parents but the old and the needy of the town. He was indeed their illustrious son. I was therefore not surprised to see how people showed great respect to him when I met him again at the Institute of Directors. Also on the Board of Trustees of the university of Ibadan where we are members, he was always his ebullient, respectful and perfectionist self. Wherever he found himself he made sure he gave of his best showing love and offering peace. He served humanity and his God gloriously to the end. Wherever he was, there was laughter and joy. May he find rest on the bosom of the Lord and may God give us more men like him in our nation in Jesus Name

May the Lord comfort his loving wife and family and remain a Father for them through all the changing scenes of life in Jesus Name.

It was Williams Shakespeare that said ‘all the World is a stage, men and women are merely players.......’ Sir Oluremi Omotoso played so well in the corporate and religious circles to the admiration of all ‘spectators’. Not every player receives wide admiration but those that finished well. My delight is that Sir Omotoso finished so well. Congratulations to his immediate family and his corporate family where IoD Nigeria is listed. Lovely child of the Most High God, continue to rest in the Lord’s bossom till we meet to path no more. Good night Baba Remi Omotoso

Thank you so much 'Egbon mi', for all your good works here at the IoD and various spheres. You always had a listening ear and advised by questioning and sharing stories. Never a piece of direct advice, because you want the person to own the decision and action. Thank you for your wise counsel through my years at my last employer the FITC, as MD/CEO; you were always available within your role as a Bank Chairman & Experienced Boardroom guru, to give feedback on what the firm offered Bank Directors. I learned a lot from such engagements. Sleep on, Christain soldier. May God sustain your dear wife and partner of many years. May your family and household grow & extend all you stood for. Sleep on till resurrection, Egbon mi. Ese pupo. Sun re o. God bless your gentle & selfless soul.

The family and associates of Sir Omotosho have really lost a gem. So also our Institute.  I met Sir Omotosho formally for the first time early in 2018 when, as the then President of our Institute, I  hosted the IODN Past Presidents and Elders to a lunch at V/Island.  I was confronted by a humble , kind  , courteous and gentle elder in the person of Sir Omotosho. He immediately earned my respect which I continued to accord him till his demise. When I learned more about him and his integrity and penchant for hard work , I could not find a better person to recommend to the Council as the Chairman of the IODN House Project Committee. And I have never been disappointed . Sir Omotosho took this assignment wholeheartedly  and gave it all that he had: time, energy, knowledge , experience and dedication. As God will have it, he was not meant to witness the turning of the sod which he had worked diligently and tirelessly with his colleagues  on the committee to bring to realisation. But glory be to the Almighty that he witnessed the Lagos State Governor’s  approval of the design and the concession on the official fees charged the Institute. He has set the pace and shown the way  for his colleagues to follow. His own portion is  done and God will reward him bountifully for his many contributions to the progress of humanity.
Adieu Sir Omotosho ! We pray for the repose of your soul and the grant of the strongest fortitude to your family and colleagues at our Institute to withstand your loss.   Amen.
