Several decades ago Sir Wilmot John (then Mr Wilmot John) was the Treasurer of the Diocese of The Gambia Anglican Church. On one occasion a diocesan property occupied by the Priest in Charge of Christ Church, Serrekunda had serious roof leakages and all attempts to fix the problem failed, causing the priest and his family suffer the consequences during the rainy season. To our utmost surprise Mr John appeared without a roof repairer as we had expected, but with his usual smile said he'd come to fix the problem with the roof. He quickly climbed to the top of the roof to fix the age old problem. This show of empathy endeared him to me, and earned my respect for this humble man who in spite of his status as the head of the institution where he worked, displayed such spirit of deferential in matters affecting the Anglican Church which he served with dedication.
    May The Lord Himself reward Sir Wilmot for his involvement in promoting the Work of God in this country. May the angels welcome him to the presence of God to be numbered with His saints forever.
