Mrs. Siti Zainab, 78, of Bengkalis, died Thursday, August 21, 2014, at her residence in Kelapapati. She was born Siti Zainab binti Kimpal on December 31, 1935, in Sabak Bernam, Selangor, to Kimpal and Siti Khadijah, the eldest of three children. Mrs. Zainab was preceded in death by her parents. The youngest of the siblings, Kamaruddin, is the father of Zainuddin Kamaruddin, a famous agency director in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Zakaria bin Muhammad Amin. Surviving are her loving sons, Zulkarnain Zakaria and wife Misti Atiningsih of Pekanbaru, Nukman Zakaria and wife Yuslina of Bengkalis, and Gamal Abdul Nasir Zakaria and wife Salwa Mahalle of Brunei, and daughters, Rinie Yuslina Fairuz Zakaria and husband Anton Budi Hartono Nasution of Jakarta, Rita Puspa Zakaria and husband Muhammad Yahman of Bengkalis, Nida Suryani Zakaria of Bengkalis, and Sri Purnama Zakaria and husband Amrizal of Bengkalis, and an adopted daughter, Misnah of Bengkalis. Mrs. Zainab is survived by several grandchildren, Nurul Fitri Hidayah of Bengkalis, Muthia Vaora of Pekanbaru, Muhammad Zaqi of Pekanbaru, Lizzy Paoly Hartono Nasution of Jakarta, Melissa Alisya Hartono Nasution of Jakarta, Agil Nabila of Pekanbaru, Erin Kartika Puspa of Bengkalis, Muhammad Asyrof Al-Ghifari of Bengkalis, Wafa Imani of Brunei, Susi Kartika Hartono of Jakarta, Fawwaz Khalili of Brunei, Asy Syifa Kaila Saidah of Bengkalis, Aisyah Syamila of Brunei, Amira Insyirah of Bengkalis, Ammar Baihaqi of Bengkalis, Linda Claudia Hartono Nasution of Jakarta, and Umar Khalili of Brunei. Mrs. Zainab started her career as an actress by joined Royal Opera and Dardanella troupe along with her parents. In 1947, she became a chorus girl for Bintang Berlian troupe in Palembang. Mrs. Zainab later joined two another theatrical troupe, Sri Budaya and Dian. She later left Sumatra and moved to Singapore where she started a contract with Shaw Brothers Studio, and made her film debut in Nasib (1949) as Maid. Mrs. Zainab later made a numerous appearances on Singapore production films. Her notable films, including Nasib (1949), Nilam (1949), Rachun Dunia (1950), Bakti (1950), Takdir Ilahi (1950), and Dewi Murni (1950), where she appeared mostly as supporting role and chorus girl alongside famous film star in the 1950s, such as Kasma Booty, Siput Sarawak, P. Ramlee, S. Roomai Noor, Daeng Harris, and Siti Tanjung Perak. After starred in her last Singapore films, she returned to Palembang. Mrs. Zainab later joined Ratu Asia Troupe and performed together with them as chorus girl. She released two songs, "Sayang di Sayang" and "Hari Raya", which became a best-selling single in Jakarta. Mrs. Zainab then made her Indonesian film debut by starring in Ali Joego's directed drama Taufan (1952) and Timuriana (1953) as supporting role, followed by a chorus girl in Belenggu Masjarakat (1953). Apart from working as an entertainer, Mrs. Zainab also a cooking teacher and often teaching at cooking school in the early 1950s. She later moved to West Sumatra to continued her education at Sekolah Kepandaian Putri (SKP), followed by taking another cooking course. Mrs. Zainab later made her last two film appearance in an Usmar Ismail's directed musical Tiga Dara (1956) and Asrama Dara (1958), this time appearing as minor role and dancer before retired to married, and became a homemaker. After moved to Bengkalis, Mrs. Zainab started to work as a cook at numerous wedding in the city for many years. A funeral service will be conducted at 12 a.m. Thursday, August 21, at Taman Makam Islam Harapan. The family will receive friends from 8 to 12 a.m. today, August 21, at Mrs. Zainab's residence in Gerilya Street, Kelapapati Darat.
