Sylvester Barber, Sr. was born January 9, 1942 to his parents, Victoria Dennis Barber and Ralph Barber.

He was enrolled in the Meriwether County School System before moving to Detroit, Michigan as a young man. He worked as a welder with Dana Corporation for over twenty years before he retired. After retirement he moved to Montgomery, Alabama. He enjoyed spending his time with family, fishing and working on cars.

He leaves behind a longtime companion, Ann McDade; children, Mary (John) Tucker of Luthersville, GA, Sylvester (Ida) Barber, Jr. of Gay, GA, Vicki (Johnny) Russell of Gay, GA, Trina Gaston of Detroit, MI, Ramon Barber of Detroit, MI; siblings, Bertha “Mott” Ballard of Gay, GA, Carol Dunlap of Gay, GA; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dad, You will be missed very much. I'm sorry that I was locked up and missed spending time with you before The LORD called you home. I will always remember everything You, Big Daddy and Big Momma taught me as a child. I will always know how to plow a field, go fishing, make & drink white lightning and work on cars, (LOL).
