Mr. Solomon Grant McCall was the third son born to the late Homer Elijah McCall and Rachel Yearby McCall onMay 25, 1921 in Brooks County, Georgia. He was the last surviving child of his parents' nine children. He was affectionately called by his grandchildren, “Grandpa Solomon” or “Pawpaw”. He was reared as a Baptist in Salem Missionary Church in Brooks County, Georgia where he faithfully participated in all church activities.

In 1954, he became a member of the Glenville Seventh-Day Adventist Church after attending a tent revival in Cleveland, Ohio. When Pastor C.D. Brooks established a second regional church in Cleveland, Ohio, he transferred the membership of himself and his family to Bethel Seventh-Day Adventist Church. With joy he served His Lord in any given position. The Bethel members would fondly remember Him as “Deacon McCall”. He was always willing to help the pastor carry out the programming of the church and assist those in need. As he was an avid gardener, he distributed his excess produce to help others in the church and in the community.

On February 15, 1947, he married Irene Hatcher. To this union nine children were born. To celebrate his memory are his daughters: Nadine McCall Monroe (Ceasar) of Birmingham, AL; Leila Patterson (Roy) of Nashville, TN; Cynthia Louise Walker (Ronald) of Chicago, IL; Linda Kay Quaye (Sam) of Buchanan, MI; JoAnn Marie Miller (Reginald) of Cleveland, OH; and Irene Lynette Webb (Monroe) of Cleveland, OH.His surviving sons are Timothy Eugene McCall (Shiela) of Cleveland, OH and Martin Jonathan McCall (Terry) of Huntsville, AL. His wife, Irene Hatcher McCall, and his eldest son, Solomon Grant McCall, Jr. (Johanna), preceded him in death as they passed away in 2012 and 2007, respectively. His memory is cherished by 33 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
